My Son's '99 Eldorado is showing the code. Of course it is time for a sticker and it won't pass with the light lit. My question is, if I drive for a day or so in 3rd gear, after the code is cleared what are the chances I will pass on the OBDII scanner ??? One shop said Yes, one said No..

Just wondering.......

Thanks in advance,
Mark B.

Might need a day or two, but yes, leave it in "3" for a few days. Do a search and you'll find another post with the exact time frame I think it is 60 ignition cycles + some other stuff.

If you clear the codes and do not go into "D" for several days, but keep it in 3rd, you will pass.

Thanks Ranger...

Unfortunately though, the code was set even in 3rd gear.
So they are going to pull the tranny and send it out, hopefully
just to replace the torque converter and some seals, not a
complete rebuild, unless it needs it...

Boy this car is starting to cost me some dough.....

Thanks all,
Mark B.

It's the sad truth for just about all of us.

I'm so "upside-down" in this car it has become a joke now to
some of my Family members :banghead:....

It's my Son's car.....I don't know how GM got away with some of
the things which consistently go wrong with these cars....

Oh well...........Get out the credit card again :bonkers:
