Dan DopeStar 156 05-31-04, 01:19 AM Do you have an owners manual? There should be one in there. My 89 Brougham d'Elegance has one in the manual that tells you all you'd need to know. 86caddtwithflows 05-31-04, 10:01 AM thanks guys ima check into this ButrCreamDreamMachin 06-01-04, 11:28 AM Hey 86Caddwithflows, check out my post dated 5-07-04 on page 4. I am pretty sure your 86 and my 85 are the same design, you may run into the same problem that I did. My post was: "When repairing vanity mirror lightswitch in my 85 FWB, I inadvertantly crossed wires and blew the fuse for interior convenience lights and power locks. Owners manual says the fuse to service this application "is not located in the normal fuse panel", instead, the fuse is remotely located "above the steering column". I dismantled the dashboard, and can not find this independant fuse among the many wiring harnesses packed in this tiny interior space. Anyone have experience or insight that might help??? Many Thanks!" In other words 86Caddywithflows , the fuse for these convenience interior items is not located in the normal fuse panel, it is independant - and I have not been able to find it in my vehicle. Also, you might be interested in checking out Alldatydiy.com For a fee ($25) you can register your vehicle, and you'll can get access to the fuse panel diagram, owner's manual, and a whole bunch of other technical information about your car. Also, your fuel gauge is a different fuse than your power locks and interior lights, power mirrors, etc. My fuel gauge went bad several years ago, and I replaced it. the only place that the part was available was a junkyard, Cadillac no longer inventoried that part. 86caddtwithflows 06-26-04, 01:35 AM ^^^anyone have any more info on this??? barge master 06-27-04, 09:00 PM I can't give you any great lightning bolt of insight at the moment, but I have an 87 gutted in the yard. The relays for at least some power options are behind the RH kick panel just under the dash. There might be some on the left also, the hood release cable just makes it a pain to remove. That might be a good place to start poking a test light. I'll take a closer look at it and see if I can get an idea of how the wiring goes. At least my car is already stripped inside. I'll let you know in a day or so. barge master 06-28-04, 10:27 PM Flows, I took a peek at that relay, and it is for the locks. There is a large orange wire with a black stripe plugged into the fuse panel, just above the flasher unit.It is next to a 20 AMP fuse labeled BODY. That wire makes it's way over to the relay, and is the power source for the locks. It doesn't power the relay though, because when I unplugged it, the relay just clicked. You obviously want to check that fuse. I would also take a listen to hear if that relay clicks. I couldn't tell you where the smaller wire that activates the relay is powered from though. I would tend to think it's the same circuit as the switches, because moving the switches activates the relay.I hope this helps out a little anyway, tearing a Caddy apart to chase wires is a real drag. | |
