Do I need to apply any gasket sealant to my replacement 425 valve cover gaskets? I got fed up with the rusty appearance, not to mention the catastrophic leaks. The replacements are Fel-Pro cork gaskets.

This is my opinion, but I recently replaced the valve cover gaskets on my 425, and as long as you take a good razor blade and remove all the old gasket material, it should seal fine. I made sure to go all the way around the top of the head with a razor blade, keeping it nice and level all the way around. Then, I wipe with a rag and feel for any remaining material. As long as it's clean, I don't see the need for anything but the gasket itself.
