View Full Version : Drivetrain issue...how do I approach the dealer?

Hi,

Driving home today my drivetrain felt weird. Don't know if it's the tranny or diff #2. As I shift through the gears, I hear noise and feel resistance. Not so much during the shifts but more as I attempt to accelerate after the shift.

Any who, I want to bring it in on Monday. Usually my visits to the dealership have been via tow truck or scheduled appointments. If I call ahead first, will they try to give me an appointment? If I just drive there early and without an appointment, will they turn me away? Should I just have it towed there and call them to let them know its on the way?

Any advice would be appreciated? Hope this thread isn't too dumb. I am not myself right now. :banghead:

Thanks

I like to set up an appointment if possible because that allows for a loaner to be available.

yeah i'd call as soon as possible, and TELL them when you're bringing it in, and then say you'd like to have a loaner if at all possible. make sure they say they have one available before you bring it in =P

Don't give them more information than they need.
Just describe what it is doing and let them run with it.
What kind of noise is it?
How often does it happen?
Under what circumstances?

Maybe road test with a shop foreman or a tech and show them the noise.
As far as getting you into the shop that depends on the dealer.

I have heard from most of the other techs on the GM forum that they are really slow right now, they might be able to work you in on a wait basis or put you in a loaner if they think the issue warrants an overnight stay.
All that depends on where you are, how busy the shop is, and how things run in that shop.
I would definitely call ahead and address those concerns before you came in.
Estabilsh a rapport with one of the advisors and buy them donuts now and then. ;)
(or whatever their favorite treat is)

I called North Bay Cadillac in Roslyn Heights yesterday morning and they told me to bring it right in. No Cadi loaner this time. They did give me a 07 Trail Blazer. Not too bad. According to the service writer, I should have the car back today.

It turns out that the lack of power during acceleration issue was due to a failed trans mount. I was just reading some old threads and it appears that other members have had issues around the 60k mile mark. I have 60200 mi on my 2004. Good thing I got the GMPP! Also being repaired is a pinion leak and the passenger side control head for the seat heater. I also opted in for the 60k mile service treatment.

Can't wait to get her back!

I'd skip the doughnut buyin if you got any optional 30/60k mile service done. You should be their new best friend now ;)

Yeah, I think so too.

I don't like much donuts either anymore. I liked them when I was younger, now they sit in my stomach like so much concrete. Plus, my doctor told me not to eat sugary stuff anymore :(

30k services don't amount to much these days. They used to be better for us and for you too.
Between Dex cool, the new ATF and a lot of design changes over the years most of the stuff is cut out.
Some shops still do it all but at certain mileages some of it is really not necessary.

We went back through all of our menu services using GM recommendations and trimmed them down to align with what GM recommends and what you really need.
