I have my 71 Eldo conv that the top Switch, dash lights, clock, and brake lights all of a sudden stopped working, they all worked fine, then they all crashed at the same time, I have went through all fuses and replaced appropriately including the large round flash fuse...Please let me know if anyone has any suggestions. Thanks-Chris

Are you well trained in checking auto wiring with an OHMMETER or test light? Were all these fuses blown? Do the turn signals work correctly. do the emergency flashers work? Could be a fusible link thats melted thru by the starter? The fusible link is the only thing coming to mind that could affect all the above. Have you purchased a factory service manual? thru EBAY or www.hemmingsmotornews.com?

Perhaps a bad ground. Get a wiring diagram amd see it these circuits share a common ground. I have a wiring diag some where. When I find it I will look into it.
All three circuits are in the dash. Pull the dash panel out and look for a potential problem.
In a pinch, I have raised and lowered my top with a pair of cordless drills chucked to the top cables at the gear box behind the rear seat.

Hey Carnut,

My Flashers dont work, and my turn signals do, I am not trained in OHM readings. I thought maybe it had to do with something by the starter since I have recently had my torque converter checked for a balancing issue. How would I visually locate? i have the original shop manual for the vehile, and understand it somewhat. any help is appreciated. chris

Hey thanks for the reply. It could be a possible ground. I have a shop manual, but not certain where to begin. Let me know what you come p with as far as the wiring diagram. Thanks-Chris

four way flashers use a separate flasher, so it could be just the flasher. swap them, see if emergency flashers now work. A melted fusible link is hard to visually verify. The wiring within the insulation melts causing an open circuit. The insulation feels rubbery and sometimes looks lumpy. With the manual giving you the color code it should be easier to inspect it.

Thanks Carnut I traced it all back to the starter and noticed the wire had come loose so I reconnected it and all is good. Thanks again...
