View Full Version : Iowa meet review. (Jesda and Gary; you missed out on all-you-can-eat bacon) I~LUV~Caddys8792 04-27-08, 09:55 PM So as most of you know, most of us Midwesterners had a meet this weekend in Davenport Ia. It was a lot of fun. This was the first meet that I attended where I was legally able to drink, and I did. Lots.
Anyways, we all met at my place at about 12:10, then left right out for Davenport. We drove through rainy, cold weather for about 1/2 the trip, then once in Iowa, it dried up, but I guess they got some pretty bad storms in Davenport about 3 hours before we got there. We arrived at about 6ish and met up with everyone at the hotel/casino, introduced ourselves, chatted and went to the Casino, where the lot of us did marginally (I lost like a buck) but Justin, on his first casino trip ever, won $600 on a penny slot machine! :bouncy:
I had a few drinks there, then we went off to a bar a few miles away in Davenport, and I got fairly smashed, but avoided "Jesdaing" the bathroom and I dodged the fatal hangover. I guess I wasn't drunk enough! LOL!
On Saturday, we all met up at the hotel breakfast buffet at 10:00, but we got there right before they closed their doors, so the food was mediocre, but the Bacon was all you can eat, so I was satisfied. :yup:
After that, we went and washed our cars, then headed off to the races. They had a big turnout, and they raced anything you can imagine, including a snowmobile (bet you didn't imagine that). I was actually pretty surprised to see so many good looking women my age participating in the race, in actual leagues, not just casually racing their daily driver....it's so cool out in the boonies. :cool2: You'd never see that with any girls I went to high school with. :bigroll:
So it turns out that Albert's AJ modified DHS is pretty damn fast, and a damned impressive car overall...Nitrous Oxide in a Deville...:worship: Overall, a very, very nicely done car...many kudos to Albert (Highline Cady) for the car. And a 3.6L CTS IS faster than a STS, atleast Nick's was. He got a 14.8, and I think Justin got a 15.3 in his STS. The big surprise of the day was Brian's '94 Fleetwood Brougham, with 176k on the clock....15.33 at 91 mph!!!!! I had it pegged at a 15.8 or so, but boy was I off. Shit, if his gets a 15.33, with a .49 reaction time....could the Roadmaster I had break the 15 second barrier??? It was 200 pounds less, and I had positraction, and like 30k less miles....oh if only I still had it..... Even Dirt Cheap Fleetwood busted out his dad's '93 E150 and got a 17.62 with it, with 2xx,xxx on the clock... fun stuff. Ronster took his '08 CTS 3.6 DI down the track too, got like a 15.1 or so with it....very nice. I kinda wish I brought the Benz....I'd get like a 16.7 or so. But, I did get to ride with Justin in one of his trips down the track...dang that was fun....15.5 seconds.
After the races, we went back to the casino/hotel, had dinner at the buffet (much improved over the breakfast), went to the casino, where Nick won like $500 in blackjack, only to intentionally drop $95 at another blackjack table. :nono: ;) I had a few white russians  and I hung out with Tanner, Nick and Justin in their lobby for a while then went to bed after listening to some Radiohead on my iPod.
On Sunday, we said goodbye to Jimmy and Michelle at 11, then departed to Granite City for the annual Iowa-meet-Sunday-morning-brunch. It was divine. I gorged out on Bacon, Sausage, some sort of pasta, and Prime Rib...and it left me without much room for much else. :thepan:
The ride home was uneventful, aside from not being able to move the passenger seat in Brian's Brougham up at all (Damnit Tanner!!). Back out of the relative warmth and sunlight of southern Iowa, into the coldness and rain of Minnesota. I hate this state.
I had an awesome time, nice meeting you all. :)
Let's do this again. Minneapolis '09 anyone? eyekandyboats.inc 04-27-08, 10:12 PM that sounds like ALOT of fun!.

That's a lot of $$. That was for regular, in MN, where gas was probably $.20 a gallon cheaper than in IA.

Highway 52 heading back up to the Twin Cities. Nice. dirt_cheap_fleetwood 04-27-08, 10:46 PM Well, here is my contribution to the photo album. These are from our drive up 67. I don't remember the order exactly, but that is all five black beauties in a row there. They are of poor quality but I took them with my phone while trying to drive right before I nearly rear-ended Ron. Thanks for that turn Nick. :D

Jimmy's first run in the V. 14.22 seconds.

Brian's 1st run in the Brougham. No, the rings didn't go, that's the right tire smoking down the first third of the track. :cool2: 17.33 seconds.

The Econobeast. 17.62 seconds. 90Brougham350 04-27-08, 11:46 PM What a blast! Good times, thanks all for coming, and thanks to Nick and Justin for setting this whole thing up. I promise you, next time the Brougham runs the quarter, she'll be low 14's. thebigjimsho 04-28-08, 01:12 AM When are you guys gonna do some real racing? http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j313/Chadillac8705/2007%20Iowa%20Meet/IMG_2065.jpg
:drool::drool: Chad, that video did not make me look good :(
Nick is planning an autocross sometime in the near (I hope) future.
This meet was.....educational at the very least.
I learned that well-worn F1s on cold pavement do not make for very good drag racing. I modulated clutch slip from a roll, minimizing wheel hop, only to get generous helpings of it on the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts. Then of course on my second run forgetting to turn of TC... I~LUV~Caddys8792 04-28-08, 01:48 AM I'd love to see how my S Class would stack up against Tanner's Coupe deVille and Brian's Brougham in an Autox course. So, would that be like, the boat-float class? Looks like you all had a good time... However, I sincerely felt a wave of nausea when I saw that breakfast plate! I definitely can't do that kinda sh!t anymore!!! CadillacGurl 04-28-08, 12:36 PM BACON!!! I wish I could have came! dirt_cheap_fleetwood 04-28-08, 01:02 PM So, would that be like, the boat-float class?

15.33 for the Brougham is great, especially with that mileage. Nice work. With a few bolt ons you will be running with the rest of the 14 second pack. I~LUV~Caddys8792 04-28-08, 02:13 PM Good lord no, I don't eat like that daily. I don't have enough Advil to allow me to live like that.

What kind of times do you get out your Brougham. I really loved Brians Brougham. The LT1 is pretty easy to work on also isnt it? Lots of mods for the engine also yes?

chad wants to put together a Twin Cities meet in January. Are you coming D? Highline Cady 04-28-08, 03:26 PM Hey guys, a crap load of fun, nice meeting all of you. I look forward to next year.
Here are the #'s off one of Nicks and the DHS runs:
Nick's sweet looking CTS DHS (Highline)
RT.... .112 .................. .261
60'... 2.219 ................... 2.259
330... 6.247 ................... 6.252
1/8... 9.575 ................... 9.509

He jumped me, nice reaction time Nick!!!, but I had enough to run him down and squeak by, by .0243 seconds.
Anyway we all had a bunch of fun, and represented Cadillacs best color proudly (LOL).
But nobody got any video of any of the burn outs???:tisk:
Already looking forward to next year, see you guys there!!!
Those runs were all with out the spray, don't have my controller in yet, hope to have it done this week, will post in the N* tuning thread look in there next weekend hoping to get to the track up here and rattle off something amazing, for a DHS anyway. nickc50310 04-28-08, 04:15 PM Racing against Albert was by far the most fun I have ever had at the track!
Maybe we could have a mini meet in the spring and then a blood meet in the late fall after I have either nitrous, a SC, or a turbo setup. :bouncy: 96Fleetwood 04-28-08, 04:20 PM What kind of times do you get out your Brougham. Last time I ran it at the strip was when I lived in Miami. I did not have the dyno tune, RAISS Ram air, Export Pipes, or 3.73 gears & eaton posi. I ran a 14.88 sec @ 94 mph.
I am guessing low 14s now? dirt_cheap_fleetwood 04-28-08, 05:48 PM chad wants to put together a Twin Cities meet in January. Are you coming D?
Now why would you want to go from one freeze-your-ass-off city to an even worse one in the middle of January??? dwight.j.carter 04-28-08, 06:32 PM Man I had a great time meeting everyone and going to the track. Not to mention winning 600 bucks. I am happy to see the Northstar prevail in the race between Albert and Nick. Sorry Nick lol. I can safely say a stock Northstar will beat a Stock 3.6L. I wish I could have raced Nick again since I didn't know what I was doing and launched late. Oh well I am only .5 seconds off of Nick at 15.3 which was my best. As for the Buffets and bacon go it caught up to me on the drive home yesterday and I nearly had an accident lol. Needless to say I have been crapping grease since yesterday afternoon. I know gross lol sorry to the ladies that may be reading this lol. I should have skipped the breakfast buffet on Saturday and saved it for Granite City which was by far the best meal of the weekend. I want to go back to the track sometime it was alot of fun. I~LUV~Caddys8792 04-28-08, 06:39 PM I'd like to go out to the track (probably Rock Falls WI) this summer sometime so I can race Tanner and Brian. See, it's like by racing Tanner, I'm practically racing my new car against my old car. And seeing Tanner race Brian would be basically like seeing my deVille race my Roadmaster. If we do actually go down with this, I'd like you all to come.
(That's what she said)
Now why would you want to go from one freeze-your-ass-off city to an even worse one in the middle of January???
So we can all go purify ourselves in the waters of Lake Minnetonka.

I dont think it was a rustang, I seem to recall it being a cutlass or something. And it was a purpose built drag racer. skinnies in the front, big fat slicks in the rear (that don't sound good do it?)
