I need your help to id the engine size in my caddy that i have bought recently.
Its a 1980 coupe deville.
But the trick is this. It says 7.1 ltr 1980 on the rad... Not sure if its the size of the motor that it written or the year and make of the rad.
Other thing is that the engine barely fits in the compartment it self. Most of the hoses are just laying on top of the engine ( but i took care of them )
I Its a V8 for sure. They Painted the engine Blue for some reason, Thats why i cant id the year of model of the engine.
Can any one help me out .
I went to two shops and they won't tell me unless they research, but i am not going to let some mechanic charge me for some thing like that .....

I checked on the rad and it says.
7.1 / 79
Now i don't know what that could mean, because i thought the didnt make 7.7.1 ltr in a 79
i am totally being thrown off here......Do you guys think if went to a GM dealer they would be able to tell me.......

Is it possible the engine has been replaced with an earlier 472 or 500? The 368 that came stock in those cars wasn't very powerful!
In 1979 the Deville and Fleetwoods had a 7.0 liter 425, which is more powerful than the 6.0 liter 368, but I don't know if you'd be racing Mustangs with it!

Ok, thats cool. So i could have a 425.
So there is no way i could have a bigger engine. The mechanic that i had some work done by told me i have a eldorado engine.
Not sure if thats true or not.
What kind of hp and torque am i looking at.
And thanks you guys are killer.
This site is my New HOME>

Well, the 368, 425, 472 and 500 are all the same size engines. They are all basically the same block, so size wouldn't be different!
That still doesn't mean it could be a 472 or 500 painted up in there. The 425's were a light blue, and the 472's and 500's were usually a dark blue.
The 425 had 180 HP and 320 lbs-ft. stock.

Post some pictures so we can see the size. Sometimes you can even tell what size it is by seeing where things are at.

Yeh the engine is a light blue colour. I will get some pics in short time and put them on here. Hmmm it be cool if it was a 425, but i think its a little bit bigger. Let me tell ya it feels like it gots atleast 240+ HP man
it pulls the caddy like there is NO TOMORROW man . Just goes off the line. But i could be wrong.
Let me get somepics and i will let you guysknow soon.....
thanks for all your help...
Love this Website / Forum , but not as much i love my ride.....

The 425 (dunno about the 368) has a single plane intake manifold, and the 472/500s have a dual plane. If it has a stock manifold anyway.

why dont you pull the heads and measure the bore or pull the pan and measure the O.D. of the piston. thats one way to be dont with it for sure.....
