Has anyone swapped a supercharged 4.4 into another chassis? Just curious what others have done with this engine already. Im trying to buy some take out engines and wanted to know what had already been done.

I can't speak for everyone else, but I don't have that kind of coin to spend. $10k on a used engine + 5k for install parts... not including labor if you can't DIY...

I didnt realize thats how much they were bringing... I tried to find some for sale with no luck, I dont think these are near that much.

They haven't been on the market all that long and they haven't sold in great numbers... that's not even considering the fact that they come out of $75K+ vehicles.

Either way... anyone can make anything happen - as long as they have the flow.

There was one on ebay not too long ago for $7k. I thought that was a steal.

I'm betting that the giant killer would be PCM and wiring/harness issues.

What do you plan to do about the transmission and its control module.

as long as it's not going back in a caddy with the desire to retain oem features, go megasquirt for your computer, my buddies and I set one up on our 2.3L with a Holset turbo upgrade in our XR4Ti track car, insane control, awesome tunability. We did the wiring harness ourselves too, one weekend, wiring schematic for the car and voila, easy to figure what you need and what you don't...

The computer the 4.4L uses has been hacked, so tuning and modifying it to run in anything would be relatively simple.

Not to sound stupid but whats special about the transmission?

The STS-V transmission is beefed up to handle over a hundred more horsepower.

Well my 4.4's are here and look great, not sure what I am going to do with them yet, most likely just sell them but if your interested let me know.

Raze - I had two XR4Ti in the 80s - I think I had an '86 and an '88 - they were pretty good cars, in their day. I had the ones with the 175 HP engine and the 5 speed. 175 HP doesn't sound like much nowadays, but they seemed pretty quick back in the day. I got rid of my second one in 1990, because my company expanded my territory to include Upstate NY, and these cars were impossible in the snow, even with 4 snow tires; they were light and low to the ground, and as soon as the snow got more than a few inches deep, the body would lift off the ground and lose all traction
