I am looking for some help with window tinting advice. I have a White Diamond with black leather interirors. I havent tinted any of my cars earlier..so I am not sure as to how to go about it. I just called the Dealer and he said that they can tint it for $150....someone comes to their shop every Tuesday and does it for them. But he said that they could go only as dark as the legal limit

I live in Miramar, FL....what is the legal limit here? Does anyone who has a White Diamond got their windows tinted?

Your tinter will know what the limit is- don't stress over it, just tell them you want it as dark as the law permits.

The legal limit is - there is no limit!
As long as you tint only the rear windows (rear windshield, rear quarters, rear doors, and as low on the front windshield as your visor protrudes)!

No tint is legal on front windows, as the cops want to see you through your mirrors to make sure you don't have a gun!

Florida law is as follows:

Front sides - 28%
Rear Sides - 15%
Back Window - 15%

Nick is correct about NJ law.

Thanks, Southern. Shouldn't have stuck my nose where it didn't belong. They have a limit on rear windows in FL? What about vans, limos, HHR's and PT's that don't have back windows? Do they get some sort of exception? Also, 28% VLT on front sides would scare me if I was a cop. I have 30% VLT on my back window and it is pretty dark! Maybe not so much of an issue in FL!

Oh, right! I almost forgot. 30% VLT looks great, I have it on my car. Looks black at first blush, but doesn't ruin your vision at night.

I'm still waiting for my black on black CTS to come in; and when it does I'm taking to a place that did my current car and it will be 5% all around!

That may seem too dark, but once you've driven in it - it's not that dark. I've had 5% all around for the last 6 years; actually I started with 20%, and after a couple of years decided on the 5%. On a black vehicle that's the way to go.

Just my couple of pennies.

Black windows do look great on a black car, just not practical, and illegal.

so we are allowed some tint on the front windows too? Coz..nick says that no tint is allowed on the front windows??
I would obviously like them as dark as possible...

Southern was right. I speak for new jersey, not florida.

Here are some good resources to find what your state allows:

TintDude (http://www.tintdude.com/laws.html)
TintCenter (http://www.tintcenter.com/laws/)
International Window Film Association (http://www.iwfa.com/iwfa/consumer_info/auto_statelaws.html)

There are a ton of tint shops around here(tampa area). I can only imagine it's the same by you. Lots of them are mobile and come to you or you can go to a shop to have it done. Having it done at a shop is more preferred in my opinion. Less debris flying around in the air and getting trapped between the film and the window. Call any of them up and make sure they warranty their job. $150 sounds about right as far as price goes. If you want to go darker than legal it's not a real big issue. :shhh: Most cops down here will never pull you over for it anyway. No if you do something wrong, that could add to the ticket.:bonkers:

Nice price. I just paid $200.00 for all four doors and rear window "35%". I am going to take it back in next week and have the front window done which will be another $100.00. "55%"

Here in RI it is illegal for any tint--howerver, it is rarely enforced.

I've had 5 cars tinted 35% all around, never once was pulled over & they even passed state inspection, who knew?

Are you looking for dark windows or are you looking for heat rejection? Most tints claim heat reductions, but there are special tints designed for this that make a much bigger difference (huper optics and wincos).

Good luck

I think GM put 70%(factory default) windows on my white CTS. If I tinit with 35%. It will be darker then 35%?

RI allows 70% Visible Light Transmission tint on side windows, the rear window and the front windshield to the AS1 line.
