View Full Version : Shock and Horror: For All those that Love CTS Osteoman 04-18-08, 10:47 PM Sad Sad story to share. I live in Aledo Texas. Horrible thunderstorms last night came through the area. A Tornado touched down briefly within a few miles of our home. Bad Bad hail damage in area. We will need a new roof. Less then 2 miles from my house is Jerry's Cadillac in Weatherford Texas.
He has two Hot Lava's on the lot and 6-8 other new CTS's and many many Escalades. ALL COMPLETELY DESTROYED BY HAIL!!!!!!!!!!!
I took pictures with my cell phone and I hope my first ever attempt at uploading works. Windshields busted, tail lights busted, bad bad multiple dents. Sheet metal is ruined.
I don't have my CTS yet but it still broke my heart.
Keep in mind that the actual cars are much worse then the pictures can show. I couldn't get a good image of the cracked wind shields but they were.
Did anyone notice the Hot Lava Texas edition??
It's weird my Toyota Avalon was sitting right near there and it hardly has annnnyyyyy dents at all!! Toyota quality or ????? Okay don't flame me I'm kidding about this part carterb 04-18-08, 10:53 PM D*mn Weather ! Seems like every 1-2 weeks we have severe storms. bobelew 04-18-08, 11:01 PM That is really hard to look at. When I saw those pictures, I envisioned how my Red Crystal would look with all of those dimples, and it almost made me cry. What a waste! I wonder how they will rectify the problem. I wouldn't think that they would bondo and repaint them all. I would think that they would have to be recycled at the factory. Osteoman 04-18-08, 11:06 PM That is really hard to look at. There were no red ones on the lot so your safe.:yup: dkozloski 04-18-08, 11:08 PM The dents don't hurt the running of it none. Osteoman 04-18-08, 11:10 PM The dents don't hurt the running of it none.
No, but it's kinda like loving a super model with the worst acne you have ever seen. Osteoman 04-18-08, 11:13 PM Okay help me with this part. Jerry's Cadillac has long had tents over all his cars. These tents are designed to protect against hail. About three months ago he took all of them down and removed the supports. These were concrete posts and heavy canvas over the top of almost the entire lot. so it wasn't cheap to put up or remove.
What advantage is it to remove them when they had been there several years and were in good condition and clearly already paid for?
Why remove them knowing this happens in Texas? RightTurn 04-18-08, 11:15 PM :ohthedrama: A good body shop will fix those right up, and likely the buyer will never know there was damage. Brand new vehicles are dinged up in transit every day, then repaired. No need for hysterics. RightTurn 04-18-08, 11:18 PM Okay help me with this part. I guess you'll have to ask "Jerry." :D I live in Houston, and I don't recall any car lots with tents. But, I don't get out much. greyghost04 04-18-08, 11:19 PM The horror the horror Osteoman 04-18-08, 11:22 PM I guess you'll have to ask "Jerry." :D I live in Houston, and I don't recall any car lots with tents. In Weatherford and this area they are fairly common because of the frequent hail. The tents are maybe 15 ft up and very strong canvas type material. Jerry has multiple dealerships all at this location and the Cadillac ones were the only tents he removed. Cadillac is his highest brand he has here. Weird. CTS Luvr 04-18-08, 11:31 PM I'd like to request a moment of silence.....wow! That is absolutely horrid! Thanx for sharing. Mike_TX 04-18-08, 11:31 PM Based on what I saw , the tent covers wouldn't have stood up against the hail ... baseball sized and bigger, and the ground was white with it just like it had snowed. Besides, the covers are meant more for shade than hail protection.
Dealers have insurance, and they will get paid for the damage. Then there will be a big hail sale at Jerry's. He'll come out okay.

. Southern 04-19-08, 12:05 AM Hail in N Central Texas? Well it doesn't happen very often. Just every spring. Sometimes several times.
Did a job on my New Mustang back in 89. (Got the roof of my house too)
New top. It was a convertible and a couple of the bigger stones blew thru the top and were setting on the seats when I went out.....
They had the dent doctor take out most of the dents. Had to replace the Hood though...it was aluminum. And they had to do some bodywork and paint.
State Farm gave me 3700 to have it done and then had to authorize another $1000 for the hood....... I was POd, but after it was fixed, I couldn't tell that anything had happened.
Kept it in the garage after that........
Anyway, if you like Texas, but can't stand the weather (Ice storms in the winter, 105 Degrees in the summer, Rains 12" at a time, doesn't rain for months at a time, Hail storms mark the start of Spring, etc) , move to Florida. I did. ;) Osteoman 04-19-08, 04:32 AM Anyway, if you like Texas, but can't stand the weather (Ice storms in the winter, 105 Degrees in the summer, Rains 12" at a time, doesn't rain for months at a time, Hail storms mark the start of Spring, etc) , move to Florida. Yea but there you have the worst medical malpractice crisis anywhere, so doesn't work well for me and state income tax. I do love Florida though otherwise. Pyromaniac 04-19-08, 05:44 AM sad story....but on the bright side, you'll be the only one with a fresh CTS....people will be jealous lol...on a serious note tho that's horrible, i'd be crushed. Can't sell them as new. Someone may be in for a heck of a deal if they don't mind the repaired vehicle. If they do it right you probably wouldn't be able to tell (but I'm sure the dealer will label it, as repaired).
p.s. I had similar occurrence with my three month old 1984 Chevrolet Celebrity Station Wagon. Even though I took it to the dealer for repair, in my instance, the repair wasn't all it could/should have been (but the car ran fine for many years; I kept it for some 15 years thereafter). Pictures like that remind me of the 3 years I spent in the Ph.D. program in Lubbock. In Spring of 1989 I was finishing up and preparing to leave for IL and a local dealer had just received a beautiful dark blue/grey leather Olds Trofeo I was going to look at and probably buy. The day I was going over for a test drive a hailstorm hit that part of town and the car was covered with deep dents along with a broken windshield and windows. Of course every vehicle in Lubbock got sand blasted by the regular dust storms. I do not miss Lubbock. Superjim 04-19-08, 08:12 AM Okay help me with this part. They interviewed Jerry yesterday on the radio.
He said that there was a lot of renovation and remodeling going on including the area where the cars were, and they had temporarily removed the tents.
Texas Jim 2laidback 04-19-08, 08:30 AM  Around our area in Penna. they have "after hail storm sales". I guess if you don't mind the pock marks one can have a bargain basement vehicle!:hide: Mike_TX 04-19-08, 11:09 AM Yea but there you have the worst medical malpractice crisis anywhere, so doesn't work well for me and state income tax. And you forgot to mention the oppressive humidity, the hurricanes, the range fires, the alligators on the golf courses, the bugs, and the suffocating heat (especially down in the keys). Then there's the high property prices, the high incidence of elderly drivers going down the road with their left blinker on, and the increasing number of shark attacks.
Whew! I'm lovin' Texas more all the time!

Hmmm, interesting but doesn't jive with what I'm seeing there. Who knows. Thanks for the info. though. All good points. I just didn't want to attack him too much. We were vacation near Naples last year and had an alligator in the lazy river at our hotel with us. That made lots of people move in a hurry.:) bmcc49er 04-19-08, 12:22 PM There will be mobile hail repair folks setting up in the area. I believe they use a form of dry ice to repair. Had mine done after a hail storm once and you couldn't tell it was ever damaged. ngiardina 04-19-08, 12:28 PM What is the Hot Lava Texas edition????????? concorso 04-19-08, 12:40 PM ALL COMPLETELY DESTROYED BY HAIL!!!!!!!!!!!
Slight exxageration there, bud! :) Unless one of the hailstones was actually a comet that shot through the engine block, deflected off the driveshaft and ended up doing barrell rolls through the transmission, then all of them will be fixed and good as new before too long.
Most people dont realize that even their brand-new ordered from the factory Cadillac can be damaged en route.
When a car arrives at port, it can be damaged while offloading. Most car ports have a body shop on site for just this situation. I've worked at a port, seen it happen, and it is never reported to the dealership/manufacturer. Ever have a new car that certain body panels were a slightly different color then others? Theres a good chance its been damaged and fixed/repainted! Red Sox Dynasty 04-19-08, 01:34 PM What is the Hot Lava Texas edition?????????
Looking at the longhorn logo in of those pics, I guess they are trying to bank off of the University of Texas popularity.:hmm: Mike_TX 04-19-08, 03:19 PM Slight exxageration there, bud! :) Unless one of the hailstones was actually a comet that shot through the engine block, deflected off the driveshaft and ended up doing barrell rolls through the transmission, then all of them will be fixed and good as new before too long.

I'm guessing he didn't really mean destroyed beyond repair.
But when my 2006 Acura TL got damaged by hail last year, it took almost $6,000 and 6 weeks in the shop to "fix" it ... and after all the attempts, I traded it within 2 weeks of getting it back because it just wasn't the same.
So, "destroyed" is a relative term. And anyone buying one of these hail cars will never have a "factory fresh" car.

Ummm...... OK..... Pinstriping package? Maybe Longhorn logos on the seats? Is it twice the size of the regular CTS? (cuz everything is bigger in Texas!)
Or wait, maybe you shouldn't mess with it?
Or maybe, because it is from Texas, it says nucular instead of nuclear, like the President!
Sorry, I couldn't resist. One of them actually did do that!!!!!!:cookoo:
Okay rather then use subtleties of the English language. The next description is for anyone 11 and under or those that are concrete thinkers. There were 7-9 total CTS each with between 237-342 2-4mm deep irregular impressions in the sheet metal of the hood, top, and trunk. There were similar impressions on the sides of each vehicle, more on the north facing side. Some tail lights were smashed as well as some brake lights. 2 windshields had spider webs cracks. I'm sure all the cars still ran but no I didn't test drive them to see, so it's anyones guess. Yes it's an exaggeration for dramatization but dang it still hurt my car loving heart.
The Texas edition was my wording not Cadillacs. All I meant was the pin stripe and "Texas longhorn" logo. I guessed most on this forum hadn't see any just like that. I guess these Hot Lavas now look more like the Texas Longhorns after the Aggies beat up on them. GIG IM!!!!!!!!! ngiardina 04-19-08, 10:40 PM ...and in conclusion, DON'T MESS WITH TEXAS! Dr Chill 04-19-08, 11:33 PM I think the Hot Lava Texas Edition refers to the special aerodynamic dimples that are a dealer installed option. Kind of makes the car glide through the air like a golf ball. bmcc49er 04-20-08, 09:21 AM I think the Hot Lava Texas Edition refers to the special aerodynamic dimples that are a dealer installed option. :highfive::thumbsup::devilheh::devilheh: Thomas Carey 04-20-08, 09:33 AM I have heard of folks getting great deals on cars from dealers that have had sever hail damage. I wonder if they will be first to sell these with the damage as it appears to be quite severe.
