: Got Me Some New Jeep(s)- bit of a read

So alot has been going on with me lately and i havent been around much...

In the automobile aspect of my crazyness, On April 1 I bought a Jeep. A silver 2007 Jeep Wrangler X 4x4 with 13k on the clock. It has Pro Comp black wheels and Pro Comp rubber. I bought it from a Dodge dealer.

It is a Wrangler X which is the base model. It goes like this.. X, Sahara, and the mack daddy Rubicon. All are available in 2 door or the 4 door "Unlimited" model. Also all, except the Rubicon, are available in 2 wheel drive :helpless:, or 4 wheel drive. Power windows and door locks are also an option on the X and Sahara and standard on the Rubicon, same as with Dana 44 lockers and electonic sway bar disconnect.. options but standard on Rubicon.

Mine has a single disk CD/mp3 player and base speakers while a Navigation "MyGig" system is an option I wish it had. It also has a 4 speed automatic tranny which some consider blasphemy on a Jeep, I didn't mind it.

I wanted a Jeep or some kinda 4x4 ever since I went through Hurricane Wilma here in Miami and all I had to try and get out of Dodge with was my lowered DTS... not fun.

So when I found this Jeep it was the right price and at the right time.. I bought it right and did the zero down thing and drove it home for under book value but when you factor in tax tag and titile it crept it back up.

The next weekend I took it on a trip to Tampa with 2 guys who work for me, I had to clean out my condo up there as I am finnaly out of there. It was a fun trip, but I wasn't all too happy about the automatic on the highway.. it seemed to always hunt around for the right gear never staying in 4th for long.

I also wasn't real happy about the room. It would be hard to take my girl and dog on a trip and pack any kinda of luggage whatsoever. I began to have that sinking feeling that I had made a mistake in buying the 2 door Jeep. It just didn't suit my needs very well. But the sheer fun of driving it made up for it a little.

Fastfoward a week later to Saturday April 12th.. I was in the Sled and I pulled into the Jeep dealership just to "look" around. What I saw there was mayhem. The place was packed. I walked around for 10 minutes and not one salesman even bothered to say "I will be right with you". The sales guys, probably 10 of them, already had at least 2 different customeres they were bouncing inbetween. I sensed this was not a good time to be there so as I was walking back to my Caddy I saw a Black 4 door Wrangler Unlimited parked in the very back..... Black... I like black.

I went to look at and I was blown away to see that it was a loaded 2008 Rubicon. Most places have been getting over sticker for these rigs over the past year or so. This one had every single option except the hard top which I don't want anyway, and it didn't have a mark up. I would be back.

The next day, Sunday, I woke up and was at the dealer when they opened at 10am. I was the only customer there... Sales guy came out.. blah blah blah.. gave hime the "I run strip clubs" routine to soften things up... next thing you know i am being introduced to everyone there. I made an offer of invoice.. refused.. but they countered with $750.00 off sticker and promised that was the bottom as that Jeep was one of only two Unlimited Rubi's on the lot which was true.

I knew I couldn't trade my other Jeep in without being prison raped so I didn't even bring it up, so I did the dirty and bought the Rubicon.

I LOVE THIS THING!!!

It is a 6 speed manual, me likey, NAV, MyGig radio with hard drive and Sirus satelite radio, up graded BFG Mud Terrain tires, tinted windows.. even the back plastic ones are factory tinted, tow package, cruise, fog lights,... the works. The room inside is more than twice that of the two door.. it is more than enough for a weekend trip.

I just ordered a 6 inch long arm lift and am looking at all the other gazzilion things i can get from the 4Wheel Parts store that just opened here in Miami.

So, I gots me a new hobby to keep me busy until the CTS Coupe comes out.

I like! Has the rustic appeal of a Land Rover Defender or a classic Toyota Land Cruiser... except its not old and creaking. Very nice indeed.

Well, it's no GRAND WAGONEER, but it'll do. :D

J/K Dennis, very nice. :)
One of my best friends had a '98 Wranger Sport for a few years, man, we had a lot of good times in that thing, especially in summer, with the top down.

Man, it's nice to know I'm not the only crazy person on this board :D

Congrats!

(I must admit I am a bit surprised that Chrysler dealers are not accepting ANY offer on ANYTHING right now. I would think they'd be practically giving cars away by now.)

Well they did come up with a home run in the Wrangler Unlimited, selling like hot cakes.

I met a guy the other day at a Mile Marker winch seminar held at 4Wheel Parts here in Miami a couple days ago who paid 34k for a Wrangler Unlimited Sahara 2 WHEEL DRIVE less than one year ago. That is more than i paid for a loaded to the gills Rubicon. I really didn't know what to tell the guy, but I am sure the look on my face gave enough response on its own.

But i don't have too much room to say anything after buying a 2 door than deciding I want the 4 door and getting it 12 days later. I am gonna take a bit of a hit on the 2 door so i might as well have paid over sticker for the Rubi. :bomb:

That MyGig system looks pretty clever. I love the speaker setup.

What is the Sway Bar button?

Yes, the Rubi has an electric disco for the front sway bar to give the suspension much more travel. On the Wrangler X I would have to buy a sway Bar disco and physically have to crawl underneath the jeep every time I wanted to disconnect it or reconnect it.

Very cool.... the JK's are still growing on me... but so much money! Maybe someday I'll get a Rubicon TJ.... personally I think the TJ is a great looking Wrangler inside and out. Still alot of money tho.

Looks like alot of fun.... and shame on you for getting an automatic Wrangler... atleast you fixed that :)

I love the fact that you keep a bug out vehicle in the hole in case the :shtf:. I have always love Jeeps, and have actually been looking to pick up a clean, all original, mid 90s jeep for awhile. Trouble is they're all cut up and modded when you can find them. Anyway I like'em, but a slush box on an Jeep :ack:

When I was 15 my folks bought me a 1980 Jeep CJ5. It was black on black with zero body rot or rust. The previous owner owned a machine shop and maintained it in great condition. It had the 304 V8 which he had bored, added a hot little cam, aluminum intake, 4 barrel carb, and headers that exited just behind the doors on either side. The steering was really loose in it which made it impossible to drive over 50mph, but that thing was a hell of a lot of fun in the mud and on the trails. Selling it before I turned 16 was one of the wiser things they did. I would have certainly killed myself in it before my 17th birthday.

I still miss it though. :cloud9:
