Can anyone briefly explain to me the positives
as well as the negatives to putting the V exhaust on a 3.6

And advice, comments from those cts owners, who have done this before

A few questions i have.
-Will the 3.6 sound similar to the V with the exhaust?
-Will i loose hp or torque?
-Can this be bad to my engine?

I'd appreciate any replies!..thanks in advance

Sure as hell wont sound like a V, however it will sound better than stock.

I am sure GM expended both alot of time and money to tune both the CTS and the CTS V exhaust systems for the best sound and performance for each engine. While I have no doubt the V exhaust will flow better than the non V will, back pressure or a lack of it is not always the best thing for performance.
Sometimes losing backpressure hurts performance sometimes it helps. I wouldn't risk my dollars betting on an exhaust designed and tuned for a much larger engine with a very different flow requirement.

If you want to get a gain in HP from your CTS imo you should look at a system tuned to the engine in your car.I haven't researched the subject at all but there have to be several companies making an exhaust system designed and tuned for your car. There are many knowledgable people here that will hopefully chime in with some suggestions on what exhaust system you should purchase.

simply put, you will lose low end torque with the v" exhaust. borla, corsa or magna flow are the way to go.

While everyone is on the subject, I want to get an exhaust on my car, but what is the pros and cons of just having my local muffler shop put 2 flowmaster mufflers, remove rezignators (spelling?), and throw on some stainless tips VS buying a full exhaust sytem?

The shop I went to said that the magnaflow mufflers will add a few hp but not as much as a full catback exhaust would. I'm still undecided myself as to what I wanna do !

i mean of course ur shop would tell u that ... means more money for them but in all honesty the cts is not a tuner car, i know everyone wants to go faster (including me) .. there are plenty of ways to gain #'s effectively, try replacing ur resonator with an xpipe and then go with a hi-flo cat, pete raimondi was actually lookin to get rid of a set, try a search im sure u"ll find it and i believe it was an increase btwn 15-20 whp OR u could pick up a v exhaust and throw an xpipe on there and replace the mufflers ... price it out and go from there

GRRRr....Cause its really a difference of a couple hundred dollars. Need to find out how much of a HP difference there really should b. Ya know? There are a couple big threads if you search back about a year. They include a couple different combinations and dyno results.

HEre, I just found these for ya...not the ones I originally read a few months ago, but theyre a start.
