The car looks good but why isn't it a Chevy?

Pontiac = Holden

and

Chevy recently tried something similar with the SSR and it was a failure. You probably will not see a Chevy version of this for that reason and because GM has lately been fairly serious about getting away from platform sharing between it's US makes.

That sucks. Then I guess there won't be a Pontiac G8 renamed as a Buick Grand National.

I saw some kind of Denali concept that was like a 4 door El Camino. I'd consider one maybe if it had the Avalanche style mid gate and covered bed.

Yes, called the Denali XT.

And aside from wheels and some extravagant trim, it's VERY close to reality and may be produced before long. The reason being, people want the crew cab "truck" factor matched with a bed but few do any serious hauling at all...and a lighter weight, aerodynamic, etc. vehicle is the only way they will ever start to meet CAFE requirements and still give that.

So a lot more hybrid-designed "trucks" may start showing up soon.
------------------------------------------------------------------

As for this Pontiac G8 "sport truck" (they're having a contest for anyone to come up with its name), they brought the sedan version over which is getting raves, and for years, Australians have gone nuts for these "utes" as they are called which are the sport sedans with a truck bed, essentially.

Seeing how popular they are over there, almost with a cult following, and the fact that the Holden Commodore of which the Pontiac G8 is, and that offers a ute model, it was a natural progression to bring that ute over here also in G8 form.

Seems odd to people that it's a Pontiac, but it's from what the G8 is, and they wanted to keep it in the brand. However peculiar.

The big question is how it will REALLY do, as it's been a long time since there's been a successful car/truck in the US.

They aren't making it a Chevy because there are too many cars in their lineup as it is. IMO, once you stop making a car its very hard to get it going again. No matter what happens, people will never fully accept that as a full on El Camino.

Yes, called the Denali XT.

Ooooh... I hope they build that. I think it's the best looking concept with real production value since the Enclave. If they build it (and don't overprice it) they'll sell boatloads. There are a lot of folks who need a truck bed every now and then who don't need nor like the style of a pickup.

Then they should call it the Caballero... or maybe the "Gaballero," to fit in with the whole "G" theme.

Well, the naming contest/system closed, so we'll see what it ends up being.

I know a lot--however stupidly--put in El Camino, but it's time to try something new and that actually fits with Pontiac.

We'll see.
