View Full Version : Lowering spring suggestions?? To those that can help and not bust my chops for asking.
I just got the P40 stock 18's delivered to me for super cheap and want to fill in gap the fender well. I have not been to sucessful in finding a lot of options for lowering springs or sport springs. For those that have them can you provide a suggestion, commemts, and opinions on the springs you have?? CaddiLackin 04-17-08, 04:44 PM Talk to Nick.....
Eibachs!! xocomaox 04-17-08, 04:56 PM Yeah I put in a set of Eibach Pro springs when I got my 18" wheels. Make sure you have FE1 shocks and not FE3 or you will have load-leveling issues.
Could be reversed on those numbers though... can anyone confirm? CaddiLackin 04-17-08, 05:02 PM FE3 is load leveling i believe... what happens if I have the FE3? CaddiLackin 04-17-08, 05:21 PM The rear end of your car will look jacked up... nickc50310 04-17-08, 05:32 PM If you have FE3 (sport shocks) you will probably need to get FE4s or FE1s. If you get FE4s you will need to do the shock mod listed on www.cadillacfaq.com (http://www.cadillacfaq.com) to correct the load leveling issue.
I would NOT downgrade from FE3s unless you want a cushy non sporty ride. I just re re checked and I have the FE1's so from what I see i'll be fine right? ALso is there a good place to buy the springs or they all the same price?? nickc50310 04-17-08, 06:02 PM tirerack has the best price.
Sport rims, eibachs.....

Just making sure i'm riding in style, however I drive a white diamond cts. and according to other posts the WD is only for girls.:worship: odysseus 04-17-08, 06:18 PM I think H&R also makes springs for the CTS, but Eibach seems the most prevalent. Several members have reported that the newer FE3's have the rebuildable upper mounting hats, so the WildWhl lowering mod will work. For FE1's there's no issue, since they're not load leveling.
For early FE3's with the one piece upper mounting hat you can either get a set of non-load leveling FE2 shocks for the rear, which match the damping rates of the FE3's but without load leveling, or you can upgrade all four to the V shocks (FE4's) and do the WildWhl lowering mod. They're much stiffer, though. Cadiman1983 04-18-08, 12:28 AM So if I get 18" rims, with Eibach springs, and I have FE1 shocks, I don't want to change the shocks at all? what if I put the V front bumper on? Hush your mouff. -=AlexXx=- 04-18-08, 03:04 AM how do u know what suspsion u have, i have a 3.6L with the sport/lux package. which springs can i get and what will that do for my ride? make it bumpier? sportier? better turning? better traction? what are the pros and cons? odysseus 04-18-08, 10:12 AM The key to getting wheels and tires to fit with a lowered CTS, regardless of shocks or rim diameter (18", 20", etc.), is offset and tire width. Stick with 245 tire width, and 40mm offset, and you're pretty much guaranteed to fit. Wider or drastically (more than +/- a few mm), and you're asking for rubbing, if you don't first take detailed measurements and do some math. just installed FE4s & Eibachs last weekend, took a long time but isn't overly hard if yer mechanically inclined. Do need a good spring compressor tool & a torque wrench that goes to 195lbs.
Here's thread i posted earlier about it, has link to photogallery with a bunch of pics on what i did: ready for midwest meet (http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/cadillac-cts-forum-2003-through-2007/137849-ready-midwest-meet-i-think-pics.html)
Definitely a much stiffer ride, but I luv it so far, my other shocks were worn and the car handled terribly, corners like it's on rails now. btw, you will also need to do a wheel alignment if you mess with the suspension. i had one done wed. & the front end was pretty far out of spec., car handles great now. scheme29 06-09-08, 03:48 PM if i remove my FE3 shocks and put in FE1 shocks , will they bolt right in or would i have to do modifications? odysseus 06-10-08, 08:47 AM They are interchangeable, but why go to the softer FE1s on the rears? FE3's are a very high end shock built by Sachs. The later FE2 sport shocks have similar damping rates to the FE3s that you'd be replacing, and are non load leveling. I'm guessing that the price is the same for FE2 and FE1 rears (~$250/pr, list price).
If you have the older one piece upper mounting hats on the rear of your FE3's then the better route would be to find some used FE4's for around $100. Swap the rebuildable mounting hats from the FE4 rears onto your FE3's, then do the WildWhl spacer mod for $5. You keep the load leveling FE3s, and the rear will drop the requisite 1". scheme29 06-10-08, 02:27 PM ODYSSEUS , i have a couple of questions for you. If i install FE2's will my car drop lower than what it is right now with the FE3's(it looks horrible right now with the eibach springs , way to tall in the rear? Will FE2's drive better than FE1's ? do you have a link or website on where i can get Fe2's, i went to tire rack.com but all they have is FE1's. help please i wanna get this done by this weekend, my car looks super funny with a drop in the font and the back sitting like it is stock. thank you . odysseus 06-11-08, 10:03 AM If you do nothing to FE3's and install Eibachs, the rear won't lower at all. If you do the WildWhl mod on nivomats, it will drop 1" (the Eibachs are made to drop 1.2"). By putting non-load leveling shocks on the rear, it will drop the full 1.2". I don't know the part number for the FE2 option non-leveling sport shocks, but several members hear work for dealerships and may be able to help you out if you PM them. I'm sure they'll work you a deal. Non-load levelers (FE1, FE2) are much cheaper than the Nivomats (FE3/FE4/FG2).
The FE1, etc is the option code, not the part number. You'll need the part number to order them. PM 'ewill3rd', (he works at Lindsay Cadillac). He'll be able to help you out.
I installed FE4's with the WildWhl mod to drop 1", and shimmed the fronts up 6mm to level it. So basically, my car sits about 1/4" higher than most Eibach dropped cars, but it sits level, and I keep the very sweet nivomat self levelers (FE4's) on the rear. scheme29 06-11-08, 01:48 PM thanks alot, u have been a big help. i think the FE2 come on the 2004 model. i have a 2003 but you said they were interchangeable so i shouldnt have a problem. thanks again. How does lowering the CTS affect winter driving...positive or negative effects? if any?? | |
