Hello,

I change my oil in my 2004 CTS 3 times a month. I drive 167 miles a day. I have done this all my life to all my vehicles. No dirt or grime in my engines. I use Vavoline synthetic.

Three times a MONTH? I think that's a little overboard there, Frank. :D But, :welcome: to the board anyhow.

so you do an oil change every 1600 miles, that half of recommended on regular oil, let alone on synthetic. what does your dic tell you? i bet it says you have like 70-60% left.

Thank you for the welcome...My DIC…. don’t use it or the recommended mileage… I change 3 times a month with new filter.

do you change your tires every two months, or every three?

That is crazy. In my opinion you are spending good money unnessesarily, but hey, whatever tickles your pickle.:welcome:

Well he doesn’t have to worry about the oil consumption issue… No time to be consumed between changes. (lol) Would this oil changing frequency (three times a month) really keep your engine cleaner? I also drive a great distance daily to and from work 65 miles one way. I do go buy the OLM to change the oil. And I check it twice a week as I (the vehicle) consumes a quart every 3000-4000 miles.

Different strokes for different folks.

enjoy

damn, I thought I drove alot

if those are all highway miles, you can certainly go at least 6000 miles, if not more. VW is recommending 12000 miles now.

VW has been having problems with engine sludge too, I've heard...

3 oil changes a month is wasteful, really wastefull if he is using synthetic oil, and not very smart environmentally. This guy either works for Valvoline or he is kooky :)

that's not all their having problems with; but with today's oils, 12000 miles does not seem like a stretch to me if you drive mostly highway. my stepdad just bought an 08 GTI so we'll see.

I pass gas at least 3 times a day

When it comes to oil changes you should listen to your DIC.

Jimmy, I drive about 100-200 miles per day with my car and I changed the oil at 11000miles of life. After an analysis, oil was still good for a couple more miles but I trust my OLM but yes, its a lot of miles on the car and the oil is holding on!

My concern is the plug to flush the oil will say goodbye 3 times sooner so maybe too much is like not enough!

todays oils are very good. I was down to a little less than 2 quarts once on my Maxima, and you couldnt even tell. No overheating, no loss of performance or efficiency. I dont recommend doing that, but it is nice to know that these oils can handle being overworked.

I'm just saying, first post, obviously doesn't know what he's doing if he is changing oil that much. I'm still thinking an instigator.
