So after a couple of days of driving my DI CTS, I think I am hearing lifter noise. I believe I saw a similar thread on this but cannot locate it now. My first car was a 1983 Cutlass Supreme and towards the end of its life, the engine was making a similar sound but it is a lot softer on the cts. It appears to make this noise only at low rpms when I am cruising down city streets. Anyone else hearing similar noises from their engine?

It could the Direct Injection itself you're hearing- one of the inherent results of the technology is a soft ticking from the high fuel pressure in the rails, even when idling.

I would not compare noises from an overhead-cam direct-injection engine with a powerplant based on 1950's technology.
the hydraulic "lifters" in this motor don't even move.

I did, but only for the first thousand or so miles. Now all is quiet.

I hear the same noise if I stand outside the car when it's running, but I don't hear it if I'm driving with the windows up. I was also told it was a normal noise from the fuel injection. Since the car is under warranty anyway, I'll take their word for it and see how it goes. It doesn't seem to be changing or getting any worse.

this indicates you hear noise while inside the car. the typical DI noise if any should not appear inside the cabin. there was a thread a while back about noise coming in under the IP like around the steering column area. there is a fix pending but I haven't seen further info recently. is this similar to what you are hearing?
