View Full Version : Parking Lot Nightmares "1,700 Miles" WOOLMAN2 04-15-08, 06:01 AM We’ll I thought that I would be posting some pic’s of my car with the window tinting that was just had completed on Saturday night. But no, I have to post these’s one’s. My wife went to the store last night, and you guessed it. Some one backed in to the driver side rear. Now it’s off to the dealer ship to find out what can be done. I’m not sure how they are going to fix this one, I know that I don’t want the rear panel bumped out but I’m not sure what options I have. Any thoughts please let me know. mtdew456 04-15-08, 08:52 AM The way some people drive these days really worries me, the driving abilities of some people are really lacking. Best of luck with the repair. Did the person that hit the car stay around or run away like a coward? WOOLMAN2 04-15-08, 09:10 AM My wife was still in the car when they hit it. It was a young 17 yr old girl. I feel for you. Your wife was in the wrong place at the wrong time. At least the young girl didn't have an opportunity to drive away. Please let us know what comes of the repair. ddawson 04-15-08, 10:56 AM Try a Paintless Dent Repair facility. They can do wonders. Southern 04-15-08, 11:10 AM Nothing paintless about that repair. New fender time. dkozloski 04-15-08, 11:32 AM I'll bet the girls dad will be yelling at you that he can have it fixed at the roadside Mexican body shop for a couple of hundred bucks after you give her the estimate. It's always my luck that I get hit by the dumbest drivers that have no insurance and no money. The last one forfeit her car and did jail time for no insurance. WOOLMAN2 04-15-08, 12:44 PM Nothing paintless about that repair. New fender time.
That is what I was thinking. The only thing is if you change out the Rear fender you also have to change out the front. What fun that would be "One Piece" I'm going to stop at the dealer tonight after work and get an estimate. I'll post the damage "$$$$" once I get it danjessee 04-15-08, 12:49 PM Well, at least you got 1700 in, we only got 450 when a 17 yr old boy on a cell phone 'glanced' off of our new silver FE2 baby @20mph. :want: We had less metal damage than you had , $1490 bucks and 10 business days. Now it is back to perfect w/repainting 1 fender and 1 door completely BTW. No trim pieces were damaged luckily so no parts ordered.
We went to a shop ( dealer reference)that only does new lux. cars. And they had 4 - 08 CTS's like ours w/o plates. It was kinda sad. Good luck finding the right shop. BTW the teen's Dad paid cash for all costs to keep it off the insurance, give that a try IMO. My wife was still in the car when they hit it. It was a young 17 yr old girl.
Ugh, sorry to hear about that one. That's a pretty big dent for a parking lot.
Last week, I watched a teenager in his parents' Tahoe back in to somebody at the grocery store, while the other person laid on their horn to no avail. The teenager took off, but I got his license plate number and gave it to the victim who in turn gave it to the cops. WOOLMAN2 04-15-08, 04:45 PM We'll I just back from the dealer and I guess I was wrong. After looking at the car you don't need to replace the front fender as I first thought. That' a good thing. Now for the estimate.

That's a lot of money.... I bet her dad won't be happy with his insurance rates.. Pyromaniac 04-15-08, 07:42 PM yeah, both parties should have insurance, but that's what you get with young drivers i guess. Her dad will be mad, but as long as he's insured it's expected. I've only had one accident (I'm almost 21) and I didn't even feel that it was my fault, but they deemed that it was. I was making a left hand turn in stopped trafic, and drivers in both opposing lanes waved me on, but some lady driving in the shoulder hit me after I passed both of them. My claim was that no one should be driving on the shoulder passing traffic if there's a street where people can turn. But they said she had the right of way, which I thought was bullshit, but oh well...shit happens. I was 18 at the time in my old car, so as long as nothing bad happens to my CTS ill be happy....
I've had someone back into my car in a parking lot while I was driving before, and had someone straight ram into my door in a park parking lot where I was about 30 feet away, but didn't see it. The driver just took off. My whole rear door needed replacement. I couldn't believe it because those two incidents took place in a span of a week and a half. That's correct. Somebody waving you on does not give you the right of way.
I believe she should have also been at fault as well, though - I don't think she's allowed to pass traffic on the shoulder. bcourson 04-16-08, 03:02 PM Parking lot dings can be painful. Especially with a newer car. Hope the repair goes well. Pyromaniac 04-17-08, 03:14 AM That's correct. Somebody waving you on does not give you the right of way.

Yeah, I know if one of the two people in the lane had hit me of course it'd be my fault, but they both stopped and waved me on, and like you said, the lady in the shoulder trying to get to thr freeway by going around people on the shoulder should have been at fault. Maybe not completely at fault, but at least 50/50. But hey, what's done is done, and it was on my old car. As long as nothing serious happens to my CTS, ill be a happy driver :) lordbaby 04-17-08, 09:00 AM this is the reason why i have to pay 5000 dollars for insurance per year even with multiple policies .. people drive crazy.. and pull the curve up up up and up. i didnt even hit someone's car ones.
my est for repair came up to $700 paunchy1975 07-02-08, 07:31 PM We'll I just back from the dealer and I guess I was wrong. After looking at the car you don't need to replace the front fender as I first thought. That' a good thing. Now for the estimate.

Just curious how the repairs turned out. I had similar damage in a parking lot this weekend. Was quoted 1200 from body shop and 700 from insurance. Hopefully, you or someone with repair experience can ease my mind that it will be repaired like new. Thanks. I'll post pictures. paunchy1975 07-02-08, 08:08 PM 43174

How does it look after the repairs, this car has one of the best paint finishes that I have seen and I am afraid that it won't look right. Can't get it in till Tuesday, so just holding tight till then. paunchy1975 07-03-08, 12:47 PM By the way only have 2300 miles on mine. :( WOOLMAN2 07-08-08, 01:11 PM The dealer ship did a Great job with the repair. You cant even tell anything was ever wrong. I hope you have the same results. Some drivers are so careless and just dont care. God Bless, Joe paunchy1975 07-25-08, 04:17 PM Thanks for kind words woolman. Got it back can tell off course being the owner, but Fischer Body of Troy did a pretty good job. |
