I am looking at a couple of escalades, one is an 03 selling for 23,000 with 40xxx miles. Other is 03 with 60k selling for 20,000. They do not come with warranty, is this a bad investment to buy? Should i go practical and buy an import? This is the truck I want but i dont want to blow an engine, transmission, transfer case etc.. and end up losing lots of $$$.
The older Lades are notorious for front differential issues. If you have to get one replaced you'd be facing a couple grand, which would almost pay for an extended warranty. It's a smart idea to have the warranty unless you have enough cash on hand to get those kinds of things fixed. Negociate the price though.....3K sounds steep to me.
A friend has a well maintained 03 with over 100k on it now. It's not a "bad idea" to buy a used vehicle of any make, just know what you're buying and protect yourself with a reputable warranty. You should read the terms of the warranty before you buy to get the details of what it does and doesn't cover.
And believe it or not imports aren't without mechanical problems. :shhh:
Welcome to the Forum. I would not buy one out of warranty unless you either get an extended warranty, or have a pocket full of cash, you do not know how the other owners took care of the truck i.e. maintained it, as said the front diffs go because owners never change the fluid.
