With all the LED talk going on here lately, i've decided to do a thread on converting your Escalade to LED.

Fist off, let me just say i consider myself an 'Amateur expert' on automotive lighting. I've converted 4 cars to LED, including my Escalade.

All the LED bulbs the escalade requires are available from this website:

Below you will find the amount of bulbs and the direct link to the specs and a part number so you can cross reference when you order. Remember to get WHITE!

Yes, they are much brighter; but it's mostly for looks, not performance.

Nice job!

$100.00 for all those LEDs is considered cheap in automotive lighting standards.

It gives the inside and out a completely different look and that is worth more than $100.00 to me. Too bad you can't do my Escalade for me. I don't want to deal with it.

What about the DRL bulbs? Are those replaceable to the LED lamps?

Good question. I searched and searched but the bulb in the DRL is some wierd bulb that no one can figure out; so i just left it for now. I'll replace that one day maybe?

If you do a search there is a long thread where someone gets a part number but there is no way to cross reference it with matching LED versions.

On Sylvania's automotive lamp replacement guide, it lists the DRL bulb part number as the 5201. Anyone know where to get LEDs to replace the 5201 bulb part number?

Mark's chart is much closer than the sylvania one. Never go by the sylvania chart. Here is a cross reference page for people looking to convert to LED.

The best and only way to know for sure is to remove the factory bulbs and see exactly what you have.

The chart is almost 100% correct EXCEPT for the DRL. I removed my headlights b/c i installed 5000K D1S bulbs and the LED top marker light, i did look at the DRL bulb and it had a strange base, the base was round, but not bayonet style. A 3157 bulb is wedge base and it will not fit. Thanks for the reference however, it's much better than sylvania's.

No one ever seems to figure out what the bulb is, even after about 5 pages.

you said you need (2) bulbs for the headlights? what are you changing in the headlights? i dont understand? the headlights them selfs are hid's? & your not changing the day time running lamps? please help.

Ive done this yo my Yukon and I loved it, I just ordered all the bulbs now I will post up pictures also once I install.

I should be getting them on Thursday and Installing on thursday !!

i got my led's in today, the int lights are so bright its like flash lights above my head! the rear reverse lights are not as bright as the stock blubs for some reason? is there a brighter led for the reverse lamps? i installed the left & the right was left stock & when looking at them you cant look right at the stock light because its so bright & the led is weaker.

so you guys see what im saying?

UPDATE: I put the LED's in the headlight lastnight & those look sick! much better then the yellow light that was shining, looks like theres hid's in both now!

Yes, the reverse leds will not be brighter, because they are not designed to reflect out light in that housing like the bulb is designed to do. I have seen different style leds and higher brighnesses for reverse but have yet to find one that works good for the escalade.

So far the brightest reverse lights Ive had are xenon bulbs.

But I would really like an led option....

Not long time ago I had to meet somebody from this forum. the reverse lights he's got were pretty cool and very bright. 25 LED's per light bulb. If any questions, hes name on this forum is "Vecstasy"

Thay have them on ebay for much less.

What's with the fascination with back-up lights? Didn't you see my pics? They are just a bright as stock and didn't cost $60 a pair.

I sure hope that GM puts in LEDs in the 2009 Escalade. With as much as the Escalade costs, I don't know why they didn't do it already. Seems like a no brainer to me!

not gonna happen. they are so cheapos. and on top of that, with all the new changes in the lineup...they are taking a big hit on the bottom lines, with the SUV sales dropping like crazy. keep in mind that that the latest model did not have a lot of "goodies" from the previous. you know some small things, like instant mileage, duh... and they changed the seats, making these smaller, they took out the cabin filter, and such others...my guess? not gonna happen. but who knows. good luck though.

I actually tried the Superbrightleds route but after ordering a bunch from Jake @ V-LEDS, the V-LEDS are much much brighter! Although a few are more money, IMO, I think its worth it in terms of brightness. As far as the DOMES go (Dont waste your money on the Putco Escalade ones) I ordered the UNIVERSAL PUTCO DOME LEDS from JC Whitney. They light up the cabin immensely!!! I went with the 20 piece for front & center & 24 piece for the rear...You dont have to get those sizes I just went with the biggest I could. The smaller ones are much cheaper.

The DRLs Im still working on..Ive changed every bulb except for that one!......I did manage to get an H11 to fit on two of the three tabs, and it seems like a very tight stable fit...I might do and LED H11. Hmm..I wonder if an HID H11 would work I have a few of those...

Ok since I am changing all the lights does anyone know what would be the correct HID bulb to replace the stock halogen ones in the fog lights. I really believe that would nicely complete the look.

I just did. H10 55 watt HID. A much brighter wider spread of light than the stock.

Can anyone confirm that the middle bulbs are the DRLs? I thought the top bulb was the DRL. I don't think I have ever seen the middle bulb turn on.

I bought a really cheap system off ebay about $75 for a 35 watt H11 kit so I bought some 3000K bulbs off ebay for about $15. They seem to take a little time to come on to full brightness.

For some reason that link didnt show up, but I think I know what you are talking about. I think those would work too. But again I didnt use those. I used these other putco universal ones from jc whitney.

Ok I got that done they were just really stuck on there. But I am still having trouble doing the head lights for the top bulb and tail lights for the led reverse lights? Also on the mirrors i cant seem to get the 194 out of the housing? Both are stuck...:confused: I have the cover off but the bulb does not want to come off...

They are DRL's. Only on when you are driving during daylight.

I just bought a new 08 Escalade andthen I found out that the 09s will have the LEds headlamps. Based on your post, it seems that I can just buty all these LED bulbs and replace existing -- is it literally that simple or are there any other wiring fixes that nee dto be made?
Approximately how much do all the LED bulbs that tyou listed cost for a full conversion? Is the difference worth teh cost.

Im really having a hard time trying to locate the correct ones on the product listing page
I see the WLED WHP bulbs but they are all followed with a # like 6,9,5,13,15,18
And the Festoon bulb i only see 39xx or 44xx no 42xx as described by the OP

I think you'll find that if you do some reading, there are many of us that have posted what we used, including myself. It wasnt hard for me to remove all my bulbs, identify what they are, and replace them with led.

If you want the brightest leds. V-LEDS is the place! I have shopped 3 other led sites, spent hundreds of dollars, and have found vleds to have the brightest..

Same here. Im experimenting with an extra H11 hid kit I have that comes with a different relay harness to work with the DRL's. Im going to see if I can try it today. As far as an exact replacement I have not found, a few that look pretty close. It seems the 07 Tahoe has something similiar just not what the Lade has.

I found only 2 kinds of bulbs.

These are the reverse I used..Pretty Pricey...But Very Bright!!

It looks like they dont sell the 7 watt 194 168 style anymore. I bought 4 of them for them and they were $49 a pair. These below are different but similar in a high power only $29 a pair...

Thinking about converting my 2007 EXT to LED. You think the same LEDs will work on the EXT as on your lade? I'm sure the interior, doors & rearview mirror lights are the same less one set of overhead lights, but my license plate is different. Calle dthe dealer and they say it's a 192 so I'm sure this is the same right?

I have a 08 EXT. Just replaced the license plate bulb with a LED 164/198 bulb.

Any word on the LEDs for the DRLs?

It was actually a kit called Light Glow that I purchased from a local car shop. Its a 7 color LED kit that come with 4 little bulbs and then 4 bars for under the dash. I hooked it up to a 12volt accessory wire that came with my lockpick for the nav. As far as the install goes, it was pretty simple

What would be great if SOMEONE who has done this before would put together a light/lamp/bulb package for sale with all components...hint..hint :)

I just converted my truck to led and my lights on the inside flicker when they dim. Does anyone else have this issue or know how to fix it.

Mine do the same right be4 the are completely off.......doesnt bother me.

Can someone please post some more pictures? My friend installed some LEDs in his Maxima and they are blue. I don't want that "ricerish" look. All I want is white. Thanks!

the fogs are 8000k HIDs and the turn signals arent changed

I have an 08 EXT and my tail light aren't LED. I want to replace the top 2 red lights and the bottom white reverse light.

Anyone know what 3 bulbs I need or which ones work the best. I have already done everything else with the LEDS from superbrightleds.com and am very happy so far!

Go the the "HOW TO JOEY MOD YOUR HEADLIGHTS" thread, there is a tutorial link there on how to remove the headlights, it's really not that hard at all, but you need to completely remove the headlights to change the top bulb.

Got most of the leds in...great improvement!

For some reason the underside/side mirrors won't illuminate. Can't figure out why they won't work. Anyone else run into this problem?

Not sure about your case but I know when I installed LED's into the backup lights of my Vette one didn't work until I rotated 180 degrees in the socket..?

Strange since both the drivers and passenger mirrors LEDs aren't working...everything else is fine :confused:

The bulbs are "polarized" they have a positive and a negative. If they are in the wrong way they wont work. Test with your stock bulbs to ensure it's not a factory problem, also test the bulbs that don't work in a different area like the door panels (same bulb) and see what happens.

Just ordered all of the LED's. Would be realllllllly nice if we could find out the LED equivalent to the DRL's. Have done a little searching on my own and have not found anything. Thanks for the links to Superbright. It helped.

Go the the "HOW TO JOEY MOD YOUR HEADLIGHTS" thread, there is a tutorial link there on how to remove the headlights, it's really not that hard at all, but you need to completely remove the headlights to change the top bulb.

Just my luck...looks like the tutorial is a dead link.

Anyone have any tips/instructions on how to replace the headlight bulbs? My Escalade is in for service today and I asked my service advisor if they could install the LEDs into the headlights. They said the charge was 2 hrs labor ($180) since they would have to remove the bumper to remove the headlights! Of course I politely declined. :rolleyes:

Driver side - remove 1 bolt from the washer fluid res. to give a little more room.
Pass side - I have a K&N CAI, so just open the airbox, remove filter and you are in business. If no CAI, then just remove the factory airbox - lots of room.

For the Park lights (top) - I used white 194 wedge LED's. Use needlenose pliers to unscrew the light holder (1/4 turn).

For the DRL's (middle) - I used Putco, Pure, Ion Spark White 3800K (H16/9009 - 230001SW) $30/pair. These ARE a direct replacement and look awesome. Be careful removing the old PS19W bulb so you dont break the grey clips holding it in.

I am picking up matching Putco H10/9145 (230010SW) today for the fog's.
The DRL's look so sweet that I can't wait to put in matching Fog's - although they are not on at the same time.

I have an 09 escalade ESV, I have counted up all the bulbs I have in the car, and am having the dilemma of where to order from, putco, advanced automotive concepts or v-leds.

My fear is ordering these for a few hundred and only having a 30 day warranty, all my other cadillacs, the leds would flicker and burn out within a few months.

Any ideas? Also, I know the bulb types but when I go to these sites there are so many variations, would anyone be willing to work with me and send me links? Your help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Thanks for the tip. Ended up changing the top bulbs of both headlights by just removing the top two screws on the headlights and pulling out the assembly a little. Was definitely a tight fit trying to access the lights, but I'm 100% happy with the results.

Can you post pics of your new DRL bulbs? Would love to get rid of the stock bulbs ASAP. Thanks.

Did the entire LED conversion except for the DRL's and top headlight bulb. Waiting for DRL replacements in the mail and will do it all together. Thanks for the post. Looks 100% better!

Guys, quick question for all you who did the LED conversion. I heard that in a couple places the multi LEDs, don't fit. Did you see a benefit to putting in the multi's or just the single (cheaper) option. I think the more expensive reverse lights are the way to go.

The front side markers are LED. Are you referring to the top bulb or middle? Top is a 194 parking bulb and lots of people have done that. Middle is DRL- Daytime running light and not too many people have done that LED because of the lack of availability. This is the best option IMHO - I am going to order it.

Its only a new mm difference in size. I know people said that they don't fit in all the places on the truck (mirrors are one). Just seeing where I can put the multi led's vs the single led's for all the 194 bulbs.

I bought every bulb from the first post and they look great. I still need to change the tail light and headhlight.

I noticed the package for the (Part number: WLED-WHP) stated "Do Not Install in headlight housing"

Are they safe for the top headlight as the first post states?

2 - What LED can you use in the fog lights and are they easy to change?

I just ordered the WHP5's as they were the smallest. Once I get them in I'll let you know if the fit in the front light. I think any bigger than the WHP5 model will not fit, because they will hit the internal reflector.

No, i have not changed anything since my first post but i'm quite sure the Superbright LED's has a lot more options than before, although IMO my backup lights are plenty bright.

OK got my bulbs today. Didn't get a chance to get the top bulb in the headlights in (parking light) but it does appear from the size of them that the WLED-WHP5 bulb from superbrightled's will fit no problem. No need for the WHP5 bulb in any other location, the WLED-WHP is fine.

2 of my festoon bulbs did not work from them, so I need to return them as they are definately defective (tried every dome light socket in the truck).

So you need:
2 - WLED-WHP5 (for parking lights)
6 - WLED-WHP (2-plate, 2-puddle, 2-front door)
6 - 4210-WHP6 cool white 7000k (for domes)

I just undo the 2 bolts on top and pull the headlight forward. It will actually come out a good bit...just give it a tug.

There is probably a bolt in the bumper...I know there is a little tab holding the bottom in, but I don't think it's holding the light by itself.

I removed the top 2 bolts, pulled it forward, and changed the park lights.. It works better if you pull it forwards then pulls towards the side of the truck. Otherwise the headlight angle adjustment stem may get in your way.

DRL's should be easier than the park lights.

So I purchased these LED's to replace my DRL lights. Sadly, I cannot get the power plug to fit on these LED's. It easily fits on the factory DRL, but when trying to connect the power plug to the LED it just won't fit. Also sadly..I Broke the top clip on the driver side DRL. So be careful if you mess with those. Light still fits tight and bottom one works so it's not a big deal...now I know how to get the bulb out...(just an FYI...the top and bottom grey clips...pull the top one up slightly...push the bottom one down slightly to release the the stock bulb...wiggle the black part and it will come free)

If someone knows how to make these fit please let me know. I really want to change the DRL's from the ugly stock yellow. I got half a mind to just remove the DRL's completely...I Don't really like DRL's to begin with..so why even have them in there?


I did get my LED's in my fog lights though. I really like those. I wish my HID's were that color. Although the HID appear to look different depending on the angle you look at them. Are the HID's easy to change? Anyone have a place to purchase replacement HID's to match my fogs?

The fog lights look really cool with the headlights off. Just the park lights, side markers, and fogs on...looks cool.

Yep they are the same. You can also use 9005 in there.

Changed parking lamps ( 194 12v) now they dont work (before I changed them one of the originals was already blown)....checked the fuses and they seem to be fine...could this be the relay....want to try to resolve before i take it to the dealer...hoping someone can pass on some guidance

Got them to work just had to get the headlight assembly to pull out further with some careful force, needed to get my hand in at a better angle to apply better (slight) pressure, they do fit, cover goes on. Look nice to me, wish I could post pics, newbie and just a basic member, guess I cant and no pm. I still need to get the headlight assembly all the way out so I can upgrade the D1S’s.:bouncy:

It doesn't click in securely..I agree but put it in...give it a couple of taps..it will stay.

The bulb itself...I just used my thumb and finger to pull forward on the bulb. It was snug but it did come out.

When do those light come on. I have never seen mind turned on.

Just wanted to give everyone an update. I tackled the DRL's again today with success...one thing to note if you do this..the top clip on these DRL's is very brittle..if you break it don't worry..the thing fits in there snug as a bug and the back cap fits very tight as well.

Also, when you pull the power plug out from the factory DRL, there is a piece of rubber on the power plug...mine was green...looks like its there to make the bulbs fit tighter or prevent water or something from entering the bulb. At any rate, remove that..the 5202 LED's go on much much easier with that gone and they fit very tight on the power plug. This way to you won't have problems closing the black cap back on the back of the DRL itself.

Now here are some photos (have my LED fogs on in some of them and my park lots have also been changed):

I agree! Inquiring minds want to know. That looks amazing! I want to convert the entire Escalade front end to LED. GM should have done this from the factory. They did the taillights in LED, but nothing else. What a waste!

What bulb do you have in your Park Lights? They seem bright. I like them.

MATCHN TOYS: you have created a frenzy...lets see some daytime photos of your turn signal LEDs and instructions...also I visited your CarDomain page....what bulb did you use for the vanity mirrors...and I assume the installation was simple, I havent looked at mine yet...need to know that I can find bulbs first

I think when I did mine... I just pulled out the air box and did it that way. pulling out the headlight is good for the top running light. leave it in and pull the air box out...its not that hard and i found it much easier.

Glad everyone like the work I did to my truck... ill try to get those day time pics when I get a chance... but just so everyone knows they are not as brite as you might think durning the day... so it might not be something you want to do. You couldnt see my factory turn signals anywayz so I dont really care either way.
