I "ordered" a 2008 CTS with a dealer at a location I will be moving to in two weeks. I am coming from Hawaii and the idea was to minimize my time without a vehicle when I arrive. He says he placed the order on 4 Mar; however, I am beginning to feel that maybe he didn't place the order or maybe he didn't have any allocations left.
When I asked about the status 5 days ago, this is the response I got back..."We should be receiving the invoice and build stage estimates for your CTS soon. I have a feeling Cadillac may issue some consumer cash or owner loyalty bonuses this quarter. The inventory controller will notify me as soon as we get more info for you."
I don't have an order number or anything. Is this normal or am I being paranoid?
If you have an order in the system, then you should have an order number. If the dealer cannot provide you with an order number, then something is fishy. If you get the order number call Cadillac Customer Service 1-800-333-4223 and they can verify what state the car is in.
I may be wrong, but I thought the car is invoived to the dealer once built?

The invoice comes with the delivery, from what I understand.
I am in the same situation. I just spoke with my dealer after ordering two weeks ago asking if it was too late to order high polished wheels instead of painted. He called me back and told me that would increase the sale price by $750(which I stated was no problem.) i asked for the order number and he stated he doesn't have that yet, he did state that there has been a price increase but I shouldn't be effected since my vehicle should arrive by May 21. According to him price increase is on vehicles delivered after May 21. I also let him know I see no activity on the credit card I used for the deposit.. his answer was he wouldn't have that go through because why pay interest. once i again I asked is the order placed or not and he stated it is placed. This is the Internet Service Manager I am dealing with, this whole process has been done over phone and email. I have no signed agreement just a agreement on sale price.. he is very clear on details.. So you are not alone, I too am having trouble getting an actual order number from the dealer just verbal guarantees that it is ordered.
You should get an order number right away. I got my order number the day I ordered the car. It gets submitted, Cadillac picks it up and it gets built. The dealer gets the invoice when the vin number is assigned, which is after the car is built, not on delivery. I know this becasue I just went through this process with my car. The dealer had the invoice, week before it actually got delivered. If the dealer can't give youi an order number, then it is total bullshit and he hasn't put it in the system yet. He has to have an order nuber when he sends the order in. I got mine right after the order went in the system.

That is all true.
So call the salesman and tell him you know how the deal works and you just want your order number.
No Order Number=No order.

My dealer gave me my order number in 48hrs!
They are probably waiting for one to come in on there inbound sheet....and it just hasnt arrived yet so that is why they are not ordering one for you b/c they have one coming in. I personally think dealerships could careless about the consumer!!!! Stupid and sorry for your frustrations!

JPAPS...my whole process has also been conducted over the phone/via email. If I have been given the run-aruound there isn't much I can do at this point other then tell them I am no longer interested and to wait for the '09s to come out and order from someone else. I have pinged them once again for an order number. Hopefully, I am just being paranoid based on dealer horror stories.
