I am rebuilding a motor for a '70 deville. The motor is a 472 out of a '74. Does anyone know if it is posible to use a '74 water pump with the '70 pulley set-up? The w/p for a '74 is only 30 bucks versus the 80 for a '70. I know the diference in the set up it the two belt p/s pump pulley. There will be no ac on it so that is not a problem. Any insight would help I tried searching but can't seem to find anything helpful.(please let me know if I missed a thread)

Thanks

Charlie

If you want to make sure you won't have overheating problems make sure you getone with a impeller that looks like this...

It should be the same, just line it all up and measures as best as possible, I did a similar thing with my 500 to a 425 and ive had no problems, just takes some adjsting and ;ining up. Good luck Chris

There is such a thing as overcooling problems as well. :tisk:

I'm sure there is... But your never going to see that happen with these motors.. Thats not going to be caused by a waterpump... maybe a radiator way too big... Have you ever had a overcooling problem with one of these motors?

Open the hood to one of these cars after a 30 mile drive on a hot July day, trust me, you be better off in hell!

I don't have one of those pumps, I haven't done any modifications (major ones) so I think its wise to stay stock and keep within stock temperature ranges to coalesce with the engineered tolerances.

The pump I have pictured is the NAPA's best pump, for these motors.. They had been sold for years... But now that these cars are getting old NAPA is no longer carrying them... Some Napa stores might still have one left on the shelf...The biggest advantage to these pumps were there ability to keep from over heating while idling stopped with the air on , on a hot day...anybody who knows these motors knows that... now the only place you can get these pumps are from the vendors that specialize in the motors... MTS, Cadco, Torque INC. and Potter ... these guys know there stuff..
