I just purchased a 2004 Escalade. I checked with the service department to a get an extra key cut. He said it would be free. I purchased a 2002 DTS a couple of years ago, and I was charged $100 for extra key. They said it had a chip in it.

The service department said I could get a key cut anywhere for the 2004 Escalade in that it did not have a chip in the key. The brochure on the 2004 Escalade says it come with Passkey Security. How can it have Passkey Security without a chip in the key?

I will have to look into that, I was told that the key does have a "chip" of some kind in it. :hmm: :hmm:

Yeah I thought the 2004 would have a chip in the key also. Anyone know how much a key for the 2003 would cost? I know it is not going to be cheap.

i just bought an '02 EXT and there's nothing on the outside of the car. my dad's '87 corvette and his old '91 cadillac he use to have both have a little black chip (i guess) on the key. there's nothing like that on my EXT or my dad's CTS....unless i'm missing something.

The newer cars mold the resistor into the plastic around the key
