Hi all, sorry if I post this in the wrong place but I don't know what it is so I don't know where to put it. Googled forever and can't find an answer.

I recently pulled the codes off my 85 fleetwood, front wheel drive 4 door v8.

I got an f046 which as far as I can tell is something called a "ps pressure swicth circuit fault" Or says could be a passkey II but I think thats some sort of anti theft thing and I don't think my car has one...... so much be the ps pressure thing.....

Now.... only thing I can think of that ps might be short for is power steering? But with the curcuit part in there I am unsure what it is saying. Is it saying I need more fluid? saying a fuse is gone? Is there some special circuit I need replaced or a switch or what lol. I am completely lost in this.

Thanks a ton
Tasha

Look down behind the power brake booster. You should see the steering gear where it passes thru the firewall. On the steering gear is a switch, much like an oil pressure switch that is either faulty, or the wire connector to it is loose and or disconnected. Its there so when you turn the steering wheel the computer raises the idle just a bit. The switch sees the higher pressure in the steering then sends a signal to the computer. Check the wire connector then report back. The sensor is called power steering pressure sensor. And please list year and type of car in your signature profile.

Hmmm okay, I will try to figure out what sort of Charlie Brown teacher speak you just told me lol. You are dealing with a girl here that has only ever changed plugs, o2 sensors, cv axels, batteries, alternators... I am still learning. I honestly have no idea what you just said but I imagine I can find the steering gear by the firewall and look for a switch. However, I dont know how to check the wiring to see if it's burnt out or anything....all I will hope for is that its loose so I know what to do hahahahahaha. I will let ya know when I figure all this out but it's gonna take some staring under the hood looking perplexed, and then perhaps wiggling things that I don't know what they are, and a little chin scratching, head nodding and uhhh-hmmm sounds:P

PS sorry about not listing the caddy type I put it in there now

When I post an answer I never know the level of car repair knowledge the man or woman posses. I also assume when a person posts, they want directions to either repair the car themselves or burn a copy for their mechanic. Sorry if you think my "Charley Brown" speak was too simplistic, but my directions get you in the area. With your repair history, a steering gear pressure switch should be a piece of cake! If I recall, this switch has only 1 wire to it.
