View Full Version : Bluetooth & iPod integration yourgmsolutions 04-09-08, 03:30 PM I've had many emails and PM's with questions about iPod and Bluetooth solutions for V model CTS
here is what it takes. I have parts coming in the next few days
Bluetooth Options
1. 99% Plug and Play Module ( still required BT kit) $85 shipped
this module connects between NavRadio --> Factory Harness --> BT kit.
It automaticaly mute radio and let BT signal go through your Bose system. No need to disconnecting or hacking your OnStar. Also the great feature of this module is that "not using vehicle data communication"
http://yourgmsolutions.com/bluetooth_car_kit_harnesses.html
2. all you have to do is to buy any BT kit and connect to this interface module.
3. I can also put together a package with Bluetooth kit already. I can offer several Brands of BT kits
iPod Option
I have a kit that I have been testing in a V and it worked out ok.
this is how it works (hate it or love it)
1. you can scroll only through your playlist (such as recently purchased/most 25 played/or what ever else you create) or songs
2. will not scroll through Artist/Albums/ etc.
3. additional AUX input
last year I installed and sold a whole bunch of Neucelus kits and few others which in my opinion (i am not going to lie) have one more feature over the one that I have. But I had to remove them form every single vehicle because of the conflicts with XM.
$115 shipped. with 10 days to try out. if you like it great, if not --> send it back and you'll get your money back. So there is nothing to loose. Ok, i have a MP3 that has a Bluetooth option. If i wanted to listen to it on my radio would it be possible with your adaptor?
Lookin forward to your reply....

If You want to transmit signal of your Samsung via blutooth through your Bose, its possible, but very costly. (unsless you use fm modulator)
it will be cheaper for you if you just buy ipod kit and use AUX option for your Samsung.Or another option would be, I can build you a switcher module, where you can toggle (using toggle switch) between your XM and your Samsung.(least expensive option) Your ipod adaptor has a ear jack input or just the RCA left and right?
Also how would you take payment, CC or wire transfer? I am very interested int the BT kit, I have been wanting to hook up my cell to the car since before I bought the car. Let me know when the kit is available and if the cost is still going to be the same.
Thanks,
Andy yourgmsolutions 04-09-08, 04:36 PM Your ipod adaptor has a ear jack input or just the RCA left and right?

RCA as AUX
but i can give you additional cable for you samsung --> mini plug on one side and RCA on other
I take Paypal --> safe for everybody yourgmsolutions 04-09-08, 04:39 PM I am very interested int the BT kit, I have been wanting to hook up my cell to the car since before I bought the car. Let me know when the kit is available and if the cost is still going to be the same.

With regard to Bluetooth, I'm not quite sure what you mean by "not using vehicle data communication"; do you mean it won't affect your Nav system?
Mike (somewhat confused) v10boost 04-09-08, 05:17 PM i have parrot kit in my car and it is great. better than motorola bt kit that was in my other car. yourgmsolutions 04-09-08, 05:26 PM With regard to Bluetooth, I'm not quite sure what you mean by "not using vehicle data communication"; do you mean it won't affect your Nav system?
Mike (somewhat confused)
the way 99.9% lockpicks work, is manipulating with vehicle data control system. this kit does not. I used hundreds and hundreds of their kits on different vehicles (mostly GM), and they just awesome
company who makes them is "Kram Telecom"
http://www.kram.dk/ Put me in for a complete bluetooth setup. I was the one emailing you on this. What is used for a microphone and does it play throught the car's sound system?
Do you offer motorola kits?
Thanks, Jeff Interested to know how your BT kit works...like you said the current ones interface with the databus, which has given me a few hiccups, but nothing major....two questions, does the radio have to be in the 'on' position to hear the ringer, or take/make a call....and will it have it's own volume control...even with the hiccups in my current system I like that I can have the radio blaring and as soon as it switches to on* it goes to that preset volume and is adjusted separately.....very interested in how your kit works....let us know when you can on the pricing. wbrooks63 04-09-08, 10:02 PM I"ve ben looking for something like this. especially with calf. law effective July 1 that you can't be on the cell phone while driving, must be hands free. will this harness intergrate the motorola IHF1000 kit to the CTS-V radio? and use the internal speakers and microphones? sorry i didn't just pm you but i'm too new. when do you expect to have them available? ^^ I'm pretty sure internal mic is a no, considering you keep on*...it's a POS anyways. SuperV_Rob 04-09-08, 11:54 PM I would be very interested in a complete BT solution as well? Can you PM me with a price including the handsfree kit that you recommend (Parrot or Motorola)? Thanks, Rob I'm interested in a complete BT kit as well but could use more info on ease of installation, what microphone does it use, and are there any tradeoffs? (ie are any radio/nav functions NOT going to work post install). coolcaddy1 04-10-08, 01:34 AM I think this is going to be my first mod. Picking up an 06 black on black next week. Kinda wish I was putting some performance mods but this is a work car first. A bad azz work car tho. One other thing do any of these "lock picks" able to override the DVD not work wile driving thing? I realy just want to be able to play a DVD with music vids on it, extra rca imputs would be cool. I'm thinking screens in the back headrest.
lot of great info on this site.
thx
Bob xocomaox 04-10-08, 10:36 AM I want an ipod kit but your website keeps crashing Firefox. Going to try IE6..
EDIT: Got it working.
I do have a question though...
Site says it displays artist name, song name, song number.. which is awesome. But it also says you can scroll through the playlist using the tuning knob. Can you goto Next Track and Previous Track using the steering wheel controls? This is the main feature I am looking for. I'm interested in a complete BT kit as well but could use more info on ease of installation, what microphone does it use, and are there any tradeoffs? Ditto.
Mike I want BLUETOOTH capability in my '05 CTS-V
I have an iPod kit from USA-SPEC: http://www.usaspec.com/ipod_product_sheets/pa11-vette.pdf
I do not have an XM subscription.
I just got a new Cellphone with BT capability, but have never used BT before.
4+ Questions...
1. What exactly do I need to buy from you to get it to work? and is there anything else I'll need to buy from anyone else? (is it just your kit, or is it your kit plus another module from elsewhewre?)
2. If my phone is in my pocket, how do I answer a call in the car? Is there a button I push, or does it answer automatically?
3. If i'm in my car can I just answer my cell phone regularly without BT if I have passengers that don't need to hear both ends of my conversation?
4. Will the kit mute my iPod which is played through my XM reciever?
Sorry if some of these questions seem stupid, but again, I have no BT expirience as of yet. Not to rain on yourgm's parade, but I got one of these Kram Drive and talk cables from another vendor. I did not try it on my V, but on CTS Bose, non-nav, when I hooked it up, the volume was very very low. Now it's possible (though extremely unlikely) that I hooked it up wrong. Or more likely, they sent me the wrong cables. The one they sent me hooks up to the ISO connectors on the back of the radio, the same exact place you would hook up a parrot directly (the parrot kit does not include a speaker, the mute cable and power cable have standard ISO connectors). And the box that plugs inline with the cable says "soft-mute for Bose radios." So I am guessing it highly attenuates the signal for use with an amplifier.
So instead, I hooked the Parrot up directly to the ISO connectors on the back of the radio (which are the same as the nav radio ISO connectors) and, much to my surprise, it works. Contrary to what I have always been told, it does not effect the sound quality of radio. And as for the Parrot sound quality, it is superior to what I am getting through the radios&more onstar interface box in my V. I called a couple different folks, and they could not believe I was on a speaker phone.
The only problem is this: the radio must be on when you are using the Parrot. Since the parrot is ultimately sending its sound through the amp, the amp must be on. If the radio is off, then the amp is off, and call volume is so low, even stopped with the engine off you can barely hear it. But as long as the radio is on the volume of the speakerphone is about the same as the volume of the radio.
I would urge people interested in a bluetooth kit to get the Parrot. I have used Parrot, Nokia, and Motorola. Parrot has the best sound. There is not even a close second. Though to be fair, both of the other kits do sound good as long as you are using a phone from the same manufacturer.
I will soon be posting a thread in the CTS forum with photos showing my install.
Assuming yourgm is selling the Kram Drive and Talk, which is what his website shows a photo of, this is how the cable works:
You need to buy a Bluetooth Handsfree kit. There are many manufacturers; Parrot, Nokia, Motorola, and several others. Nokia and Motorola were designed and intended to be used with an external speaker. They have a mute lead which you can connect to a radio that has a mute input to mute the radio when the mute lead sends a 12v signal. GM radios (certainly the ones in the CTS) do not have a mute input. I believe Ford is the only ones that do.
Parrot kits do not include a speaker, they are designed to plug into radios that use ISO connectors for power and speaker connections. Parrot themselves, along with many third party sellers, offer custom made adapters that plug directly into OEM radios, so there is no splicing involved. The CTS radios, at least the one in my 2006 Bose CTS, and the Nav radio in the CTS-V use ISO connectors on the back, albeit they are not quite standard. I will get back to that.
The Parrot includes a "mute" cable, and a power cable. What the mute cable does is, when your phone gets a call and opens the bluetooth gateway to the Parrot, it blocks the audio coming from the radio, and inserts the audio coming from your phone. This DOES NOT mute the radio per se, it just blocks the sound. Your radio continues on doing whatever it was doing, completely unaware of the phone call taking place. If you were listening to a CD or ipod, it will not pause, it will continue to play.
The Kram cable works the same way. But it plugs into the Parrots "brain box" and you can toss the parrot's mute and power cables, as they are not needed. The Kram simply has it's own muting mechanism (it's approximate 2"x4"x1" black box). As I said above, I believe it attenuates the signal as well, where the Parrot (and Nokia and Motorola) does not.
I should note, that the newer Parrot kits (the MK6100 for sure) do not have seperate mute cables. That functionality has been moved inside of the brain box. I should also note that there are two different mechanisms for muting on the parrot. First is the mute lead. This sends a 12v signal to radios that support it telling the radio to mute itself (and pause the cd player if applicable). The second is the built-in muting, which are relays that simply block one set of the audio (coming from the radio) and replace with another (coming from the phone.)
The parrot has both types of muting. Nokia and Motorola kits do not. They only have the mute lead. Which does no good on a radio that does not support it. But that is where this Kram cable comes in.
The short of what I am saying here, is that if you buy a Parrot kit, you do not need the Kram cable. The parrot already has its own muting mechanism. If you prefer the Nokia or Motorola Kit, you do need the Kram cable, as their mute lead does nothing in the CTS.
To answer your other questions, no. You do not need to buy anything other than the kram cable, and your choice of bluetooth kit. Except maybe some electrical tape and connectors because no matter what kit or cables you use, you are going to have to get switched power from the HVAC, since there is no switched power going anywhere to radio. This is where the ISO connectors in the CTS are different. Standard ISO connectors are supposed to have constant and switched power. Of course if you are willing to have your bluetooth kit on 24/7, you could go with just constant power and everything will still work.
If the phone is in your pocket, you use the control pad. All the kits come with one. They have buttons for talk, end call, and a knob for volume. Except I think the nokia still only has one button for both talk and end call. The new Parrot MK6100 even has a display that shows phone status and caller id (if your phone supports this over bluetooth-many do not).
And you can switch between the car kit and your handset by pressing the talk button on the car kit's control pad. The MK6100 even lets you pair a headset, so you can switch between the car kit and headset instead. yourgmsolutions 04-11-08, 01:16 AM I got one of these Kram Drive and talk cables from another vendor. I did not try it on my V, but on CTS Bose, non-nav, when I hooked it up, the volume was very very low.
most likely you ordered wrong parts or wired something backword. I never had this type of issues before with Kram product. their application guide is not 100% accurate, took me some time to figure out what is compatible with what 3. I can also put together a package with Bluetooth kit already. I can offer several Brands of BT kits

there is many options. but I just worked a deal with Visteon (for my dealers) for their Bluetooth kit. Awesome product and quality. those who are familiar with Parrot will tell right away, that it looks like CK3100. yes it was made by Parrot, but because Visteon is one of the largest OEM supplyer, specs/quality/options are not the same as regular Parrot kit.
I can do it $160 shipped and its pretty much Plug and Play

Mark installed the kit in my car and I as well have the iPhone. It will ask if you want to turn on airport mode or not when you plug the connection in. I selected to not turn on airport mode and indeed it will inturupt the iPod function and kick into the phone function. I don't know, I ordered it and it arrived a few days later. ???
I hooked it up and it does not work. XM band disappears when it 's hooked up and appears when it's not. Anyone know what dip switch settings work with the navigation? wbrooks63 06-03-08, 09:38 PM I don't know, I ordered it and it arrived a few days later. ???

Hey YourGMSolutions, do you have any updates on getting BlueTooth for our CTS-Vs? Can you send me info on bluetooth and/or iphone integration for the 2005 CTS-V.
I would like to answer/dial the phone through the bose. Also listen to the music on iphone (I don't mind controlling everything from the iphone)
Thanks. I got a Parrot BT kit from this guy (Mark), less than 2 weeks ago. You do not need an extra wiring harness for this kit, it's almost plug and play. There are directions with pics if you do a search in the regular CTS section of this forum. Works like a charm. I got in touch with Mark, nice guy by the way, by calling the number on his web page. xocomaox 06-23-08, 06:01 PM I got the wrong part sent to me (one for an Escalade) and I'm still waiting for a new module. Tempted to just break open the box and start switching pins. Stephen P. 06-23-08, 10:24 PM I am very interested int the BT kit, I have been wanting to hook up my cell to the car since before I bought the car. Let me know when the kit is available and if the cost is still going to be the same.
Thanks,
Andy
Verizon can add any GM vehicle as an added Cell Phone unit to a contract. Uses your existing OnStar phone number. No modification required and uses your current package minutes; hands free. Cheaper than any mod package/cheaper than the OnStar contract. wbrooks63 07-15-08, 11:37 PM has anyone installed one of these bluetooth wire harness? does it work? how easy was it to install? thanks for any info.
