View Full Version : 2002 Seville STS-questions too dumb to ask GM firstcaddie 04-09-08, 06:21 AM I finally closed the deal on my Seville and am wading through all the manuals.
I guess they figured these questions were too dumb to address so I'd appreciate any help.
1. The onstar antenna. Can this be adjusted (laid down) so I can put a car cover on? I could just try it and see I suppose but it feels pretty rigid to me and I'm afraid I'll crack something if I put pressure on and it doesn't lay or flex.
It's the longer black one that goes on the rear glass.
2. Does anyone know how to change the personalization on the car? The manual says "see your dealer". I'm talking about the display with theperson's name on it that comes up when you insert the key. I bought the car for my wife and would like to put her name in there.
Incidentally, on another thread I was whining about the suspension being too firm. After driving the car all over town today I'm over that.
Yes, it's a bit firmer than I'd like but once I quit focusing on every little bump and fretting about what it might or might not do in terms of bounce it's become a non issue-which it probably should have been in the first place.
Love this car! Yes, the antenna is adjustable. Loosen the screw at the base if it is too tight to make it movable.
Only the dealer can change the "personalization" message. arthur jack 04-09-08, 11:16 AM I've got a 2001 STS and live in England. The dealer changed the personialization message for me, then said it can only be done a limited number of times so I'd not bother!. I only considered changeing after my wife lost her keys and it cost £100 for a new set here!! ($200US). It now reads "don't lose your keys!" instead of "Driver 2"
Don't have onstar here!!. It is a nice car but was really hated by the motoring press ( there might be 6 STS cars in England!! I've seen three others!!. I suspect the industry were worried that cadillac might make inroads to the ubiquitious mercedes and BMW Audi car sales that seem to be every where in the EU. Logandiagnostic 04-09-08, 01:42 PM You need a GM Tech2 to do the 'personialization.'
You should be able to change it unlimited number of times.
You can have up to 17 charaters including spaces.
You can enter any script, i.e swear words. Upper case, lower case letters.
Mine displays '2001 Cadillac DTS'.

http://logandieselusa.com/deutzdiesels.html bigslickdaddy 04-09-08, 09:23 PM The OnStar antenna is on the front windshield. The back antenna is an adjustable AM/FM and Cadillac recommends it to point straight back. Instead of putting a car cover on it, I recommend frequent washing and parking it on your lawn at approx 45 degree angle to the front of your house. The Haters really hate when that happens. No that is the Onstar antenna. I removed mine and radio reception is fine. Radio antennas are in the front and rear windows. The OnStar antenna is on the front windshield. Inaccurate response . Onstar is on back window on 2002. Above responses, minus the one from bigslickdaddy, are accurate. Good luck. Murphyg 04-09-08, 10:24 PM Are you subscribing to onstar ?
I was reading a thread a little while ago about removal of the antenna. And there was discussion about Onstar upgrades etc......
Heres the discussion : http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/cadillac-seville-cadillac-eldorado-forum/130774-antenna.html
You may not even want the antenna. cadmanchris 04-09-08, 11:30 PM I changed my message on my DTS and lowered the antenna. I do highly recommend the 45 degree parking angle so the rims gleam into the neighbor's window. submariner409 04-10-08, 08:59 AM If you choose not to upgrade the OnStar you can simply remove the antenna pads and tuck the BNC connector into the rear window trim. Someone could still upgrade in the future because a new antenna base and mini-whip is part of the package.
Bigslickdaddy is grossly misinformed. The mini-whip is OnStar, the radio and GPS antennae are built of conductive strips on the windshield and rear window, similar to heated window defroster strips. Look hard and you'll see that the antenna strips are connected at one end only. bigslickdaddy 04-10-08, 11:02 PM I argued with radio install techs at two different high end car audio dealers about that lol "whip" antenna on the rear glass being ONSTAR. No, No, they insisted it was AM/FM on back and the front windshield was ONSTAR. Idiots. Much apologies for miss guiding you friend. I still think you should park your ride on the grass though and definitely keep the wheels up shined up. Should never park a vehicle on grass. Or a gravel driveway even. Should always park regularly on asphalt or concrete.
Dirt, gravel, grass, etc......retain too much moisture. Parking regularly on surfaces like that will cause the under body to begin rotting sooner. Brake lines, mufflers and or brackets, etc... will need to be replaced sooner than if parked on a surface that doesnt retain excessive moisture. Should never park a vehicle on grass. I never really thought about that. great tip. Murphyg 04-15-08, 07:42 PM Back when I had my 93 it happened to me. Muffler brackets rotted out. Piece of exhaust that went into the catalytic. Exhaust pipes were almost done. Lost my brakes when a brake line went. (that was a job. had to replace them all)
It had just been under coated when I got it. New exhaust too. Everything was nice.
I admit that I never had undercoating done again. But I was still amazed when only three years later, all that stuff was rotting.
I cant remember who it was...but someone asked me what I was parking on.
We were in a new home at the time and it didnt come with a paved driveway. I wanted to give it a few years before paving so as to compact. I was told that was the reason it rotted so fast.
It could be a different scenario depending on where one lives, I guess ! But where I am we get the full brunt of all 4 seasons. So with regular moisture, humidity, and temp changes,......Its the perfect breeding ground. |
