I have a 2001 STS and recently notice a headlight was out. Not knowing much about the HID headlights, I assumed it was the problem. $250 later (becasue you have to buy them in the pair) I got the new one installed and still didn't work. So, I figured out it was the fuse. Replaced the fuse...still blows. This is very frustrating....can anybody shed some light on what I should do?
Thank you
Cory

Did the $250 include the ballasts and harness? Sounds like a wiring/current draw problem......is the equipment original or aftermarket?

Cory, Go up to the user control panel and add your car and year to your profile. Makes things easier for later threads/posts.

I too have an 01 Seville STS with the factory HID system and the fuse blew over the weekend. I replaced the fuse this morning and it popped again.

Keep me informed on any progress or results you come up with and I'll do the same. I'll be looking at mine after work today to see if I can figure something out.

Holy good God. It seems like you have to take half the front end apart just to get at the ballast on this caddy.
I only had the headlamp assembly half way out (2 screws on top) and didn't know how to pop the rest of it out. I didn't want to break anything but it just pivoted around by the fender but never came out.
I looked at all the wiring I could see and didn't find any pinched wires or any wires that had inadvertently rubbed thru on a sharp edge causing a short to ground.
I checked the ground wires and they were good.

If it turns out to be the ballast, I'm not even sure how I would get it out of there. Things are tight and I'm getting ready to take this thing in and have it fixed.

Can anybody out there help?
Where's all the knowledgable DIY's and Caddy mechanics out there?

I fixed it (no help to this forum)
On the MSN Harley Tech Talk forum, the guys posted directions with pictures on how to get the headlamp assembly out and how to get the ballast out.
I swapped the passenger side ballast with the drivers side ballast and the passenger side started blowing fuses.
It was then off to the dealership to buy a ballast. Since I knew a buddy who works in the parts industry, he was able to get me a discount off the $420 MSRP for a new ballast. It cost $275 (which was still outrageous) but something that needed to be done with the OEM system.
The original part number of the ballast is 12335573 and the replacement is 19120501. (it's a new style and considered a kit)
You'll also need an adapter harness for the 2-prong original power plug if you have an 2001 or 2002 Seville. That part number is 15416283 and cost around $30 bucks.
It's all back together and working just fine. I hope this helps somebody else out there as I thought that's what this portion of the site was suppose to be about.
