I was planning on upgrading my head unit with an aftermarket 6.5inch Pioneer screen with dvd and navigation. I wanted to know if I can still use my radio controls on the steering wheel. And also I have heard they have an interface that allows you to use the Bose speakers and amps. If anyone has any info about this it would be helpful.

I have a Kenwood Tv/Dvd player installed in my Escalade, and I had to buy a module in order for the steering wheel controls to still work. The module was around $200 installed. Also, i kept the factory bose with an aftermarket amp.

on that module how is the response time? I have read that it is a lot let responsive due to the fact that the module is a remote infared then sends the signal to the headunit. it seems like it would be lethargic. what module do you have? I have read up on the PAC TR-7. do all of the buttons work besides volume. seek/track/source? thanks.

The response time is fine. The down side is the tiny tiny hole they had to drill in order for the infrared to work. The volume and track buttons work fine, which i use all of the time. The other buttons on the left of the wheel (i cant even remember what they are) DO NOT do the same thing (but opposite) when going up or down. (im sorry if that is confusing) With my stereo, if I go one way, it switches sources and the other way does something else. I will check it out tomorrow and re-post and let you know exactly what I am talking about.
I also bought the module for the parking sensor. That was a waste. After it realizes that you are close to something and starts to beep, it beeps for like 15 seconds and its so loud. Its annoying bc when you are parallel parking it really doesnt help.....it just beeps. I talked to the shop and they said that I could wire the stock head unit and keep it under the seat so that i can lower the volume of the beeping :hmm: ..NO, or they could install a small speaker in the dash somewhere that is dedicated to the reverse sensor.
Lastly, I did not purchase the module for the OnStar bc i bought my truck used and dont even have onstar yet. Does anyone have this module and is it ok????
(sorry for the long and confusing post)
here is a link to some modules.

I just wrote a lengthy response, but must have pulled a LoserUser move and lost it.
Briefly, David Navone is a physicist with impressive product. I've done what all the "car audio experts" in a 50 mile radius around Detroit/Toledo said couldn't be done, and with stunning audiophile sound quality to boot!
I don't know if my e-mail address is accessible but will check back to see if you're interested in more details. David's site is <triple Ws> <dot> <davidnavone> <dot> <com>

Here's what I did... In order for my steering controls to work, I kept the stock head unit in its place, and installed the new pioneer AVIC-N1 on the bottom, where my cd changer was. Then, the stock unit would be used as an auxillary. By doing this, I can retain my XM Radio and onstar with the steering controls. As for the CD changer, I installed it under the rear passenger seat. This was all done in a 2004 escalade.
I work at a shop that sells Pioneer. The salse rep came in the other day and was telling us that since the AVIC-N1 is a new unit they made it so it was easier to interface it with steering wheel controls. Hopefully your shop knows that. I just put one in the other day and it was AWESOME. I think I have another one going in tomorrow.

Hey jcmendo01
I'm planning to do the same thing. What do you use for NAV? You still use the Fat HU or the AVIC-NC1? How do you like the AVIC-NC1? WHen you said the stock unit is used as an auxillary, how did you hook that up? Whenever you want to use XM radion or onstar, you would switch the AVIC-N1 to the auxillary channel? Excuse my ignorance. I want to make sure I do this right.
Thanks for the info!!
