I have a 1974 500 in our trans am, it replaced a small 301. :stirpot: , Its a stock 500 engine but with a Holley 750cfm, and a Edelbrock performer intake.

What would you reckon the power output is in this engine. How big diffrence did the edelbrock and holly do from the complete stock engine?

I love it!! Look how easy those spark plugs are to change (or read at the dragstrip). I am not a Holly fan by any means, especially on a stock engine, but they do work good when they are brand new out of the box. It should be good for a few horses over stock, especially with the better intake. If a guy really knows Hollys inside and out then you can tune it for for whatever mods you do in the future. I would love to have something like that at the drag strip with really quiet mufflers and surprise some people lol. I have three engines to change this summer and a 472 that I don't know what to do with, you have got me thinking now. Did that bolt right up to the pontiac motor mounts? The valve covers look kind of high, are they higher than the 301? I guess it isn't a problem since you can close the hood. It looks like the hood scoop is mandatory. Have fun.

I thought doing this exact same thing back around 1997 or so. I really wish I would have done that. I bet that is a real hand full with all that torque! Do you go through tires a lot? =)
