how do i take the engine fan (or rather engine fan "riser" off of a '75 8.2 liter?) my '69 472 had an engine fan that bolted right on to the plate. the '75 has an engine fan that sits in front of a 3 or 4 inch aluminum riser that bolts(?) onto the water pump pulley. the fan is held on by 4 long bolts that run through holes in the riser and bolt to the water pump pulley.
how do i get this stupid riser off? theres a hole in the middle but i dont know how it's attatched? screw, bolt, etc
okay so here's whats going on.
i got sick of my smog pump on my '75 8.2 liter. and i also got sick of the AC. so i took them both off. everything went smooth with the AC removal, i got the right belt and everything is cool now. but as for the smog pump, well that's a different story.
this is (if i remember correctly) how my old setup was:
crank pulley had two grooves on it. one belt went around the crank, AC, and power steering. the other groove went around the crank, water pump (the pully had two grooves in it) and the smog pump. the 2nd groove of the water pump had a belt that just went around the alternator.
here's my setup now.
i took a three-groove crank pulley (crank has smaller grooves than the 8.2 crank pulley) and attatched one a belt to the power steering. works fine.
then i took a belt from the crank and attatched it to the water pump. it's a little lose because its near impossible to get a belt tight around two pulleys that cant be untensioned. not an ideal setup for me. and then i ended up putting the old alternator/water pump pulley on and that was tight and worked fine. but the water pump/crank pulley keeps slipping, thus not charging the alternator properly.
here's what i want to do. i want to run a belt that goes from crank to water pump to alternator. but i cant because the fan pulley has two grooves and they're not spaced right for the alternator to be run by a single belt that goes from the crank and the water pump. i need the fan off of my '69 because it has a single groove. any help would be appreciated in getting the fan riser off.
sorry for the long post, i try to be as detailed as i can.
