I'm going out of town for a week. I'll take some more pics when I get back (it's not at my home... I had to rent a storage garage). I'll post some of the interior when I get back.
The drive train is all original. It's a three speed on the floor. I read that the 1937 Lasalle was the pace car at the Indianapolis 500 (as well as 1927). I was driving around the grounds of the storage facility in 1st gear, stepped on it to see how it would accelerate, and "got some tire" (accidentally of course). I bought it for resale, but I'm going to keep it for at least a year and enjoy it. .... also, it's got one of them "fancy push button starters" .... who needs a new cts or sts to enjoy the finer motor car details!!!!!! :D tenmark 04-05-08, 10:08 AM Very nice!!! caddeville89 04-05-08, 12:43 PM Dumb question....what exactly is a LaSalle? is it a Caddy or not? What's the deal. Great car by the way. Good question, I asked the same thing. The answer is yes.
The LaSalle was referred to as "Cadillac's Companion Car" because it was designed and marketed by the Cadillac division of General Motors. It was a brand created by General Motors to fill a market niche for folks who wanted something more luxurious than a Buick but couldn't afford a Cadillac. The creation of the LaSalle was an attempt to prevent these customers from defecting away from the General Motors brand to the Packard (which they were doing), another luxury car of the time. (The Pontiac brand came about in a similar way, but at the lower end of General Motor's roster).
Here is a link that provides some detailed history. Actually, it's quite an interesting history.

http://www.motorera.com/lasalle/lasalle.htm I recently joined the National Cadillac Lasalle Club as well as the local chapter in our area. http://www.cadillaclasalleclub.org/
If you like Cadillacs, this might be a great opportunity. Just another way of meeting folks with like interests as well as a valuable resource. Sometimes you don't know what you don't know. Since I joined, I've begun to realize how much there is to learn about Cadillacs (Case in point ... the LaSalle brand). As a result, I can't imagine not being a member. Coincidently, my first ever Caddy I bought a month ago (62, Series 62 convertible) and the LaSalle were purchased from a member of the club. I know more people now with classic Cadillacs than I ever would imagined (and I've only been a member for a month). The club publishes the names and address of all members by state and lists all the Cadillacs they own. I can pick up my phone and introduce myself as a fellow member and strike up a conversation. Maybe even schedule a visit to see their cars (some of these folks have five, ten and twenty cars). ... it's a sickness ... and I think I'm a carrier. Great to see a LaSalle! Yes, it's a 50 Series.

I couldn't imagine owning a pre-1970 Caddy without being a CLC member. Just so much access to so much good info and people. I couldn't imagine owning a pre-1970 Caddy without being a CLC member. Just so much access to so much good info and people.
I'm thinking more and more that way.
I'm now looking through the membership book and you wouldn't believe how many members have post 1970 Cadillacs. I'd estimate 40-50% of the members have at least one post 1970 Caddy. Heck, one guy in Ohio owns 38 cars, all Cadillacs, of which ten are post 1970.
Yep, it's a disease .... I just want to know where these guys get the room for all these cars! Old Fleetwood 04-06-08, 11:14 PM That is beyond beautiful.
Thanks for showing it. | |
