okay so on my 69 i went to fill it up the other day and the gas cap locked. either that or something got jammed in the keyhole. either way i dont have the key to get it unlocked and i really cant spare any money to have one made. my first solution was pretty much how i solve every other problem, a cutoff wheel. but then i remembered theres very flammable material in the gas tank.

any ideas? i just want to get it off so i can fill it up for the cruise this weekend. i can get a new gas cap no problem

You could put a pair of bolt cutters up to the handle and just pulverize it (the locking mechanism). I've done that to locks in stead of cutting/drilling.. very effective and very fast, and no sparks or heat. Either that, or just pry it off, or chisel it off (I'd use a RR spike), or forcibly turn it if you have the means. But the bolt cutters will work best IMO.

what do you mean "up to the handle"? my gas cap doesn't have a handle its just flat with a lock. that idea sounds pretty good i think i'll give it a shot

Note to self....never buy a locking gas cap...

(Sorry, but was considering doing so for my EXT...not going to now...)

I just meant the ridge the sticks up like this. _| |_ Just put something up to it and destroy it!

I don't want to broadcast how to work around these, but if it is a plastic cap I'll tell you what to do... in a PM.
