well i have done it.... i have figured a way to disable the DRL...(daytime running lamps) as well as the Automatic Headlights, and have every single other option work, and not have to cut anything....:woohoo:

Onstar still works, the auto dimming mirrors still work, the headlight switch has FULL control over the headlights at all times, with the PARKING BRAKE OFF!!!!!!!

it is nice to drive your Escalade at night with the lights off.... it is an odd feeling... i like it :lildevil:

what the hell was General Motors thinking when they built this..... :hitstick:

by the way this was done on a 1999 Escalade so it will work on 1999 and 2000

i am pretty sure it will also work on a 1996-1998 tahoe/suburban/blazer

I know on the 03's a twist of the headlight knob turns the DRL off, that will also turn the auto headlights off as well. Not sure about driving at night with no lights on though. :hmm: :hmm:

depends what you want to do :halo:

one time when i was in high school some friends and i were driving on some backroads, and the person in front of me turned his headlights off. a little later we switched and i drove in front. i was really weird. not very smart, but a weird feeling :)

Don't trust a damn thing the Service reps say!! I had one deny alot of issues I was having with my brakes etc. saying "an electical connection must be broken for warranty work". I went to another dealer and they addressed all of the issues I had and more. They replaced things that I had broken:rear cupholder, broken rear sound control, scratched zebrano wood accents etc.

So lets hear how to do it......
well, i dont have it perfect yet, i still need to probe some more wires and measure voltage, cause the way i have it done right now, doing this mod cancels your headlights staying on when you arm your alarm.... and it also cancels the headlight flash when you arm and disarm the alarm.

i will post pics soon of what to do to make it the way i have it, and hopefully i can figure out the perfect way so that everything works..

one thing that i did make sure of that i didnt want to cancel was the mirror tinting feature at night. i figured out one way of removing the automatic headlights, but the auto dimming was defeated. Now that i have the dimming feature back, i "think" i can make the rest work.

Also this will NOT involve splicing and soldering or altering your factory harness. It "might" involve cutting a wire or 2.... not sure though yet for sure.

but it "CAN" be done :worship:

Dome override works for me. I have an '02. Four quick pumps, a little bell rings and they're off, four more pumps of the button and they're back on. Great info. That would have been nice to know for the last two years. Sklaid I am still waiting about your miracle cure even though I will stick with this simple solution. :worship:

I replaced my factory headunit with an aftermarket unit..Could this disable the dome override switch working with the headlights?

T_Dogg8

is all the work of rewiring really worth it when you can just hit the dome override 4 times?? it says you can do that in the owners manual so it should work for everyone.

Hitting the dome overide does not work on mine. This thread is mainly for 1999 and 2000 owners. I have a 2000. I am actually keeping a close eye on this thread for an outcome.

In the owners manual it saids this procedure only applies to vehicles sold in the United States.

When necessary, you may turn off the Automatic Headlamp system and the Daytime running Lamps feature by following these steps. When the system is turned off, the headlights will not automatically come on when it becomes dark outside.
1. With the ignition in RUN.
2. Press the DOME OVERRIDE button 4 times within six seconds. After the fourth press of the botton, a chime will sound informing you the system is off
3. The system will revert back to the automatic mode when the DOME OVERRIDE button is again pressed 4 times within six seconds (a chime will sound) or when the ignition is turned off and on again..

My vehicle was sold in the UNITED states... Any clue why my caddi does this..Anything you can check to see if it was unplugged...If some 2002's DRL's turn off with the push of the dome override button then why cant we just take it back to the Service rep under warrantly and tell them we want the DRL's to shut off automatically..It can't be that hard...???:bonkers:

I have made a complete write up and step by step directions of what to do.

Please remember that this is a 1999-2000 escalade that i am working on.

If anyone wants to give me their 2002 escalade for testing purposes, i am sure i can figure it out also :)

Anyhow use these as a guideline, i am NOT resposible for anything that happens to your truck :annoyed:

If you have any questions please post them here, and i will do the best i can to help you.

The daytime running lights (DRLs) on my '99 were already disabled somehow by a previous owner, so all I had to do was disable the nighttime automatic lights. I followed your directions & only had to cut 1 wire & it works perfectly!

Thanks for finally solving this mystery!

I have a 2004 EXT and my DRL's haven't worked since the day i picked it up from the dealer 6 months ago... I presume that they were never wired from new? Is there a way to check? I'd like the option to chose whether or not i can have them on or off...

I would take it back and make the dealer fix it.

Hey guys....I figured out how to make my car FLY!, but I'm not telling!!!

LMAO!!

I have to say this whole thing is odd to me. I specifically DETEST the fact that my pre-2002 BMW's I like LACK auto headlights.. why the hell would you want to turn auto headlights OFF?? Its easily one of the most useful luxury features on any car... OH HEY ITS DARK... TIME FOR THE LIGHTS TO GO ON... YES MR. TRUCK, PLEASE TURN THE LIGHTS ON. Half the time when I get in cars that dont have this I completely forget to turn them on. I know in my 04 when if you click the light knob to the LEFT once it will turn the lights off if they were already on.

But to each his own I guess...

I don't want DRL's either but this seems like a PITA, I can't believe using the button method you have to do it every time you start the car????
