the compressor in my caddy is shot...i called around some part stores and they want around $400 for a new one...i was told i can bypass the compressor by usng a smaller belt...has anyone else here done that and if so what size belt would i need?..any help at all would be greatly appreciated...thanks
EDIT: Guess it would help to include that it's a 4.9 liter fwd...

That is for a 94 deville, but since its a 4.9 I imagine it would be the same on your 91.

Sure you bypassed the compressor? if yes does the belt spin freely without jumping around?

Maybe its not turning the alternator fast enough or something. I'm not 100% sure what would cause your problems.

I did it on my old 88 seville for the same reason, never had a problem with it.

now the bolts in my water pump pulley came loose...could this all factor from the belt not properly fitting?.
