I'm looking into getting my windows tinted in the near future. No medical codition, just think they make the car look nice. Anyways, in Illinois, we have a law that states you cannot have any tints on the front windows. The only way around this I've heard of is a doctors note stating the tint is needed b/c of a medical condition. I went to my eye doctor and made an attempt but got shut down. Has anyone got a note from a doctor for tints? If so, any suggestions on how to go about this?
Thanks!

WOW. That sucks.... There is no way I could live in Illinois. I live in TN and I currently have 10% on the front sides and 7% on all the other windows. I have not ever been stopped in TN. But I did get a window tint ticket in TX one time. They dont go on your driving record, its just a fine. I have heard that about DR. notes before but if you dont actually have the condition you might hard a hard time getting out of it. Good Luck

i am glad the optometrists are demonstrating integrity in refusing your bogus "eye disease" pursuit.

Unless I'm mistaken, it's the same way in New York. You pretty much can't tint the front side windows because in addition to the tint that comes with the car, it'll go over the percentage allowed. Still, many people have tinted windows and I don't see people getting pulled over for it. I'm not suggesting that you break the law and have tint installed, I'm just relaying information.

Same law in Cali. I got a note from my dermatologist because I'm white and pron to sunburn. Not official but it did work once with a cop. He let me off, but could have still given me a ticket if he felt like it.

Here in NY the board who reviews the stuff are a bunch of a-holes. My dad got a legit letter saying he was sensitive due to an eye operation and met the requirements according to NYS law about tint exemption (MV-80W form for those who wanna give it a shot).. sent everything in and got denied cause they said he could just wear sunglasses! The note clearly said it affected the skin not just the eyes. I'm going to reapply and see what happens.. since he is a frequent passenger in my car I qualify for the exemption. I got my car tinted two weeks ago on Saturday (20% sides, 5% back window) got pulled over Monday morning.. officer ran my license and I stated I had a note... he let me go. :D

It depends on the city you are driving through, but most in Illinois won't pull you over for just having your windows tinted. Its one of those things they normally just tack on after pulling your over for some other illegal activity. I've had my front windows tinted (20%) for about a year now and have yet to be pulled over for it.
What year STS do you have? I had a 2005 in Bronze and the windows definitely needed some extra tinting. I never did anything though and recently the lease expired and I now have a 2008 in Silver. This one has a sun roof too and the windows and sun roof tint is much better. I also live in Illinois and recommend Heritage Cadillac as they have been great for me.

2007 sts-v. Windows did not come tinted, I had to have them done myself. And actually Heritage is where I purchased my vehicle.
My STS is silver so I think a dark tint would look pretty good on it. Ideally, I'd like to get the same tint all the way around but definantly don't want to deal with having to go to court for them. I have a buddy which has some dark tints on the front windows on his Durango and has had a few court dates after being stopped in Schaumburg. The nice thing is, I guess all they ask for in court is a picture of your car without the front tints. Not saying this is the right thing to do but I plan on taking a couple pics prior to getting the tints. :yup: I actually stopped at Heritage when I was looking for my car but ended up buying from Motor Werks in Barrington. I have a family friend which was able to get me a nice deal.
