Does anybody have an experience on how well this feature works? My dealer tells me that it should alert you traffic jams 4 miles away or more.

And GM didn't even think to add this feature to the STS in '08 as they did to the CTs, boo

The STS does have a feature called "traffic alert." It doesn't do any cool GPS-integrated real-time alerting. It's supposed to help find a traffic report on FM radio.

Its useless.

I just sold a Lexus LS460 which had optional traffic alert for about 4.00 per month. It was called NAV Traffic and the service was provided thru XM radio but was delivered on the NAV screen on the map. It would highlight the highways with coded color telling you when it was clear or moderate or severe traffic. It would alert you to accidents and points of traffic blockage and had an option to reroute you automatically around traffic. There were mixed reviews about it on the Lexus forum, but frankly I felt it was a waste of money. By the time I was notified of an accident I already passsed the scene. It also is available only in some metropolitan areas so it was not of any use when you are travelling the long stretches on the highway between cities.

It sounds like good old AM radio is still the low tech solution. I could also use Google Maps on my Black Berry which does a good job of showing the traffic conditions but that defeats the safety aspects of the situation.
