Check this out. Notice the VIN on the window sticker doesn't match the VIN listed in the auction.

No mechanical fan either.

Yes, saw this, and emailed him...that's a sample window sticker taken from this site:

http://myweb.accessus.net/~090/cfb.html#ofi

I assume they saw that, and thought "hey, it's close enough", and threw it up there. But it's not the same car, and was dumb to put up...as I said in my message to them, people who don't know will be confused.

He semi-fixed it, adding:

"THIS IS NOT THE ACTUAL STICKER WHEN THE CAR WAS FIRST PURCHASED - BUT IT SHOWS ALL THE OPTIONS AND SPECIFICATIONS OF THE VEHICLE SHOWN HERE."

but that's still not correct, so I sent him another message:cool:

Said that just posting a close-up of the SPID sticker is much more helpful and correct for someone buying one of these cars. Hate to pick on someone's ad, but I'm all for doing it correctly.

Largely referred to as RPO codes (Regular Production Options). Sticker is located in the trunk on FWBs. Search "GM RPO codes" to learn what each three digit alphanumeric code means.

Uh...yes, that's already what I said and told the seller;)

The SPID label...which has RPO codes on it.

Four quarters is the same as a dollar bill but the blind can't read the bill.

Besides, I've got you on my ignore list so I have no idea what you contribute. Can't read what you've written because your messages are hidden.

What? Now that's odd...I've yet seen anyone else say my messages are hidden? I've been here for years.

Sal?

Weird.

Weird.

This thread or the post above mine? :cookoo:

Either way, and aside from whatever is going on here, I helped the seller straighten out the confusion in his ad...now fixed.

If you don't care about towing anything w/a FWB, what is the benefit?

If you don't care about towing anything w/a FWB, what is the benefit?

Shorter rear gears (quicker acceleration), firmer suspension (not nearly as floaty and more solid, and still a comfy Cadillac), better cooling, and transmission tuning with firmer, quicker shifts from the factory. Basically, just makes these cars more hearty, right from the start, without mods. Cheap option new, but was also very rare, which also adds some of the attraction.

Hmmm..... 247,000 miles and STOCK OEM transmission.... That is why I say get a V4P....

And STILL shifts great.... Caddycruiser covered it well. The BEST $215 option you can get.... And to think you can nab a stock Impala SS down the quarter mile.... Stock to stock, might be heavier, but the gearing really helps the bottom end.

It is a great package if you plan to tow or not modify the vehicle much.

The mechanical fan really gets me. My tow package Roadmaster Wagon sounds like a bus with that fan and it almost drounds the Borla exhaust. I can't wait to convert to the dual electric fans this summer.

Yeah, that's the one thing I didn't like about the LT-1 in my Roadmaster....the mechanical fan. On cold starts, with the windows down, all I could hear is the whoosh of the fan, not the engine at all. It was a very annoying sound. Is it a straight mechanical fan, running all the time the engine is, or does it have the Viscous (sp?) Clutch that will engage and disengage the clutch once the viscous fluid reaches a certain temp?

Radiator Cooling Fan (Heavy-Duty): Mechanical belt driven Centrifugal thermostatic clutch fan (primary) and 240-watt (LH) electric fan (secondary).

Don't know if these are the right specs. On mine it seems to be always engaged and working, and where is this secondary fan?

Isn't it in front of the radiator?

Ah, found this from the other thread here on Cooling systems:

The mechanical fan used with the V08 cooling system contains a built-in thermostatic clutch which senses the temperature of air that has been drawn through the radiator. When the temperature of this air is below 66 degrees C (151 degrees F), the clutch freewheels and limits the fan speed to 800-1,400 rpm. When the temperature rises above 66 degrees C (151 degrees F), the clutch begins to engage, and the fan speed increases to about 2,200 rpm. The RH radiator hose in V08 equipped vehicles has a steel tube section near the fan designed to prevent damage in case of fan contact.

So the clutch controls the speed of the fan, but doesn't have the ability to stop it altogether.

I have a video clip on ImpalaSSforum of me with my hand in the fan, engine running about 15 seconds after cold start it disengaged just fine.

Yes, it will completely disengage the blades, they will spin, but not under power, it will freewheel. But often it goes bad and stays tight all the time. Mine never roars, ever. Unless it is hot out, then it does for a very very short time. But I think maybe once or twice in 100K miles.

V4S=Vehicle Security system IIRC. Factory Alarm....

I was looking at that window sticker. What is the "Flash to Pass" feature?

Cadillacboy
04-02-08, 06:04 PM
Just watch American Le Mans Series in which you can see many flash to pass features lol . Flash to pass is you turn your high beams on just to warn the driver just in front of you when you take a passing maneuvers . You know you pull the stalk towards you and release it ,this is what it works

Ohhhh, I've always wondered why that was like that. Thanks!

N0DIH

But on some if not all, GM hooked up the Flash to Pass wrong, it should be on the HIGH BEAMS, not the LOW. I haven't got around to fixing mine, just gotta get under dash and swap a couple wires...

Oh, you 80-92 older guys? You can add the 93-96 F2P feature! Bolt in!! You just change out the switch and connect up to the highbeam wires....

Cadillacboy
04-04-08, 12:45 PM
Mine is wrongly hooked up too . What's even weirder is that you can't use your F2P w/ DRLs are at daylight but nigth, evening . I think '93s-95s are different than '96s in regards to FTP feature

Which is why it probably got found out, it will work fine, but must be on the high beams.... GM just screwed it up....
