I may have solved the opera lamp issues we are all having. I have a 1984 Olds 98 Regency Brougham that has the EL opera Lamps. They of course were out. I decided that I would work on these before trying it out on my 87 Brougham. After much wireing investigation I replaced the inverter with one i got of the internet and low and behold the origanal lights worked. They were however very dim I replaced them with some el strips that I purchased from the same firm that I bought the inverter from. After some scraping and glueing and screwing I now have bright opera lamps on my 98. Maybe tomorrow I will tackle the Brougham I would post some pics but apparently i am out of space on this site

Congratulations! This is great news. The lights on those Olds are much bigger than the Broughams, and as a result easier to work on. Excellent place to start tinkering. Send me pictures at jn_parisienne@hotmail.com and I'll put them on my photobucket if you'd like.

I finally uploaded the pictures, sorry for the delay. He mentioned that the lights look green in the photos, but not in person. I think this can be confirmed a success. The future is BRIGHT for us with Opera-light woes... pun fully intended! :suspense:

Thanks for posting the pics. They do look green but in real life they are nice and white. I should start on my Broughams this weekend. Happy lighting

I spent too much time today researching and buying the needed bulbs. After finally installing the new bulbs I come to see that strip/filament that goes from the new lit bulb to the pillar is black and looks like it was burnt. Did you replace that strip? Can you please tell us how you did it? I found this link to a guy who is selling a brand new set but would like to try your idea. http://www.oem-surplus.com/gmwp/picpages/lightcad3907.html

That 98 looks sweet. I always did love that color combination.

I have those exact same Ninety-eight Regency seats in my Delta 88 wagon. They sure are nice compared to the junky ones I threw out. Just firmer, so I don't sink in to a pillow heaven... oh well.

Thanks for the complements on the 98. I am waiting to hear from the supplier to see if i can get some shorter in length EL strips. I paid 200.00 (yes i am embarrassed to say it) but i did for the ones on the 98. One thing mentioned was if he gets enough interest he could substantially cut that price. I posted a thread a while ago and did not get any response. Probably my fault that i did not make it clear but anyway the more people interested in ordering these custom EL strips the lower price we can get. He also has inverters to replace the ones the currently go out on our Broughams and I would imagine the Eldos too. It was pretty easy to replace and cheap too. I paid 15 bucks for the one I have in the 98 now. I also believe that the EL strips would be the same size for the 80 through the 92 Brougham and most likely the Eldos too. Let me know how many would be interested and l will see what kind of price i can get on the EL strips. If we get a good price I would want this guy to set up a discount code for the strips exclusivly for the forum members. Let me know who would be interested in these and I will send a count to him and let everyone know what price they would be
