I have a very low mileage 1999 Catera.

I am looking for the trunk mounted CD changer.

If you find one that supports MP3s, and is compatible with our Bose system, let me know.

MP3s are no problem. I have a 4.95 adapter from my MP3 player into the cassette. Check out Le Target, Radio Shack, Amazon, or many others. I own about 800 CDs and don't want to rip them down, so I hope to find the changer.

I saw one on craigslist (Atlanta) this week. It was the Pioneer. If you have a Bose system, iy is factory wired. If not you will have to get the adapter harness. If you need it, I have a line on the harness.

If you have the Bose System this unit is Plug & Play.

I was talking about a trunk mounted multiple CD changer that plays MP3's that are burned to a disk. Most that connect to the factory Bose radio support CD-R but not a CD-R loaded with MP3s.

I am not aware of such a device. I'm not a fan of MP3s, since it is a lossy format, but they are convenient on a little SD card.

You rock! The only posts I could find about this was from a while back and everyone said that you'd have to buy one from a brand everyone hated! Looks like I'll be buying one from the stealership after all. Thanks!

This is the item number:190209546966. You will have to get the correct bracket to mount it but you should be able to find it on eBay as well.

Ok. I found this one too: 180228259469. I noticed the part numbers and model numbers are different. This one says it works in a Catera. Not sure if it is or not

The one I have is CDX-M 2116. It is made by Pioneer for Delco. That one you are talking about seems very high. I have had this one in more than one vehicle with no problems.

I noticed it's pretty pricey, guess he thinks it's worth more coming out of a Corvette. lol

The Delco unit is identical, regardless of which car they use - Cavortte or Catera. The last one on eBay was priced at $65. That seems reasonable since the Crutchfield unit (don't know if it's Delco, Sony, or other) is $243 with a one-year warranty.

So I'm trying to understand these posts. Am I to understand that any Delco unit will work in a Cat? It will match the plug in the trunk, will play MP3's and work with the steering wheel controls? Please help me understand.

I hope you are correct. Externally, the Delco units appear to be the same, and were made by Pioneer. If the electronic plugs are the same, they should work. The best thing are the prices - which I have seen starting just above $60, although there is one made of gold with an asking price of $240.

There MUST someone on this fora that knows the answer? Please?

Sorry - this was intended to be a question, not a statement of fact. I have found that the Delco units use a Pioneer cassette, and are (probably) made by Pioneer. Can any reader confirm this?

I have a Pioneer / Delco unit in my Catera. I put it in and it uses the fatory installed cable (if you have a Bose system the cable is already installed). The steering and radio controls work the changer with no problem. The button on the left side of the wheel control the song and changing of the Cds and the ones on the right control volume and radio / tape / CD function. Here is a picture of mine installed:

So sscatera97, where did you get your cd changer, does it play mp3's and was your cd changer made just for a catera? I'm trying to see if all Delco units are universal for GM cars. There are a couple of good prices on ebay for some out of a Chevy.

I burn MP3 format on CD-RW and it palys with no problem. I got mine from a local Pontiac dealer who had it left over from dealer installations. The only Batera specific item is the mounting bracket and I got it off eBay. AS long as it is a 12 disc that has the correct plugs receptical, it should work. I had this in an Astro van (I know, what was I thinking) and removed it prior to selling it. Does your car have a Bose system?

Does the mounting bracket allow the unit to swivel, or does it simply hold the change in place?

You mention 12 disc - the originals were 8 disc units.

Yes sscatera mine has the Bose system. Is that going to be a problem? Also, how do know if the unit has the right plug connection and does it matter if the unit plays 6, 8 or 12? Damn I'm confused. Thanks for all the info fellas.

Andergar, we're both confused. The "Delco" unit seems to be made by Pioneer - right or wrong? The changer can have 6, 8, of 12 CDs, and still work - right or wrong? I wish we could come up with a Changer Model List so we could go hunting!

I took a snapshot of what is behind the access panel. Unless I am blind, or unless the connecting cable is buried behind something, I do not see a connector for the CD changer.

Factory installed cable?

Was this hidden, or tucked out of the way? See my post and photo, but I do not see a cable.

sccatera97

The bracket mounts it stationary. I will look in my other Catera and see where the cable is hidden. If you have a BOSE system, the cable is there. 12 Disc changers are more common. I will post the photo shortly.

I burn CDs that were downloaded as MP3 format with no trouble. The changer you found appears to have the correct plug in but the Catera was designed for a 12 disc ( 1997 model ) so you may have to fab a mounting bracket. If it would help, I can remove mine for photo so you can get an idea how it mounts.

thats different than an mp3 cd. mp3 cds dont convert the songs to wave before its burnt to the cd. it leaves them compressed and the cd player will decompress and play them.

i dont think you'll find a cd changer that will play mp3 cds for the catera. im pretty sure the head unit does the decompressing and the cateras head unit does not support mp3 cds as far as i know.

Here comes the great debate... again. I highly doubt that sccatera97 would have any reason to lie to us. If he says his plays them then I believe him.
