okay so here's the story. i bought a 69 coupe deville with a blown 472. replaced it with a '75 carb'd 8.2 liter. ran fine. hesitated a little under hard acceleration from a stop but i fixed that with a carb rebuild. i thought that it might clear up the problem that when i floor it let's say at 20mph it doesn't kick down. it stays in 2nd gear and accelerates slower than desired. is this a transmission issue? i'd just like some pointers as to where to start diagnosing this problem. thanks guys

The kickdown switch isn't working. Does it have voltage?

The kickdown solinoid is in the transmission... on that year you should have one wire going to the side of the transmission.. check to see if you got 12 volts at that wire... unplug the wire, connect a volt meter or a test light to it and the other end to ground... turn the key, not running, on and put the gas to the floor... if the light goes on the problem is in the transmission... if the light does not go on the problem is in the switch on the carb or the wiring...if the light don't go on check out the detent switch at the carb, part of the throttle linkage... check plugs and connections... if the light does go on and its in the transmission, the detent solinoid is eazy to change... drain the oil and drop the pan.. if you go this far change the filter.. ok the detent solinoid is right there .. just follow the wire.. there are two screws holding it on...good luck

I had the same problem with my Eldo a few years back when I had my carb redone. It ended up being the switch not being adjusted right after I put the carb back on...
