View Full Version : Removing the Ash Tray (front)???

Alright, I don't smoke, so thought the ashtray would make a handy bin for coins......... the other day I was fishing out a coin and another coin fell behind the ashtray caddy (over the top-inner lip). Now, the ashtray won't close because it's hitting the extremely out of reach coin behind it.

It doesn't appear convenient to remove, especially with the cig. lighter embedded..... however, on the cigarette lighter side, there appears to be a larger than necessary slot or gap in the groove that the sliding rail would be.
It almost seems like a "stick a screwdriver in there to release lock" kinda set-up, but knowing my luck, I would make the situation worst.

Anyone ever have to do this?
Thanks!!!

I believe this has happened to others on the forum, and it required a trip to the dealer to remove the ashtray. I think there is also a new design for the ashtray that some have had installed to help prevent this situation.

WTF! Take it to the dealer? I guess if you cannot afford a screw driver and a set of sockets.

It is very easy to take out. I took it out to get to my ash tray to install my switch for my lockpick where the lighter is at.

Merely removed the panel around the stereo (Nav is equ), HVAC controls and ashtray. Look at the instructions for lockpick install. Then each of the decks can be removed. Each deck has 4 bolts. The Middle HVAC must be removed before the ash tray. Assuming you are not a moron, once you get the panel off, it will be very obvious. The ash tray comes out very easy.

Ben:

Do you have any pics of the ashtray switch you installed? I am going to be installing my lockpic in the next week and that is where I want to install mine. Let me know Thanks

No sir. My old lady lost the camera.
It is merely a standard switch in the place of the lighter.
