View Full Version : Is There Still a Part Shortage for Pinion Seals?

The dealer was supposed to call me a couple of weeks ago to bring my STS in for the pinion seal recall when they got parts but I haven't heard a word. Is there still a shortage? Is anybody else still waiting for parts? Both seals on my '06 AWD are leaking onto my garage floor.

I had mine done last week after being told the week before that they didn't have any but hoped to have some soon. Of course I live where the STS is built but my dealer had them as of last Monday.

Had mine recently replaced in Florida, doesn't seem to be a shortage here. It's probably my fault, have had my seal replaced three times in the rear diff. Apparently with the recall, the new seal is different. You want the new seal. I am not sure which one I currently have, but if they replace the seal with the old style, it will keep leaking... the story of my life.

Koz, I'm still waiting on mine. But, I think they forgot. I need to call them.

Update! Mines leaking on both ends, still no parts, and the dealer can't get them.

I got a call yesterday that the part was in. I still have to schedule to take it in.

My dealer had the parts. My problem is - there were no leaks before I took it in. Now there are oil drops on the floor everyday.

Mine still leaks at both ends and there are no parts available.

I'm taking mine in tomorrow. When I talked to them on Friday, I asked them what the trouble was. They told me that they were coming in 20 at a time, but there was so much demand, they couldn't keep them in stock. Then at some point they said the shipments just stopped and then recently restarted....Stay on 'em Koz!

When I called the other day they said they have a big list of people that need the recall done and so far have not been able to get any parts at all.

We have about 80 in stock but they all have customer names on them.
Not sure if we can get them for new orders but we are scheduling appointments for the folks we had them ordered for already.

No seals. No appointment. No interest from the dealer here. I guess I wait until they're available aftermarket and do the work myself like I've always done.

Still no parts available. Both ends of my car are leaking. Dealer couldn't care less. I'm afraid that if I call the help line I'll piss the dealer off and make it even worse.

Interesting. You say the dealer could care less, yet you don't want to piss him off. Hmmm....This does not read like a dihard engineer-aviator.

IMHO, pissing him off might get him to wake up to the problem.

The dealer tells me they have never been able to get parts and haven't done the recall on anybody's car yet. They say there's a whole list of us sitting here on the end of the food chain being ignored by the parts distribution center. I suspect I'll be driving mine until it seizes up and then they can fix that too. It looks like the big guys like Lindsay get the parts and he rest of us out in the hinterlands don't matter.

When it seizes up you will get a whole new differential instead of just some seals. That is if you survive the crash! I wouldn't want my front or rear wheels to lock up when driving on snow and ice!

Snow and ice are gone for this year. I'm going to get on the phone this morning and start leaning on the dealer again and see if I can get some action. This is becoming rediculous.

The squeeky wheel usually gets the grease - or in this case, Pinion Seals.... :crybaby:

The dealer finally ran out of excuses and completed the recall on my STS. No more leaks so far.
