When I recently bought my 04 SRX from the dealer they sold it to me as an AWD. When my insurance company ran the VIn it came back as a RWD. The original window sticker from when the car was new says AWD. What do I have? How can I tell?

When I recently bought my 04 SRX from the dealer they sold it to me as an AWD. When my insurance company ran the VIn it came back as a RWD. The original window sticker from when the car was new says AWD. What do I have? How can I tell?

Why not just look under the car? RWD has a one (1) typical differential between the rear wheels; AWD has three (3) differentials: one at the transmission, one between the rear wheels, and one between the front wheels. Seems better to see than to continue to check numbers.

Also check the inside of the front wheels for half shafts (axle shafts) connecting the front wheels to the differential like robhersch says. Let us know what you have found.

I had the issue w. my insurance company and carfax with my 06 AWD. They said it was RWD. I would bet you have AWD.

All vins for the SRX come back as rear wheel drives.....there is no way to tell from the vin. As suggested have a peak underneath and look for half shafts to the front wheels. Just turn your steering wheel over hard lock one way or the other and you will be able to see them. I would also bet that it is all wheel.
