View Full Version : New member EMB1230 03-27-08, 02:28 AM Hi This is my first post on here. I just aquired a 93 Deville on Sunday. She wanted $1,400 but I talked her down to $1,250. 183K, which is a lot but runs beautifully. Dark red in and out with a white Mock Top. Also has digital speed and the gold badging/ornaments. But I have noticed some things that aren't right: Clock stays on, Lighted entry doesn't work, but lock lights do and last, alarm doesn't appear to work, but the Security light comes on at startup. My first hunch was the BCM, but now that I've read about people having similar problems, I think it might just be a bad relay. any help would be greaty appreciated. Thanks! krimson_cardnal 03-27-08, 08:43 AM After market radio or security installed? How do you know security isn't working? K_C EMB1230 03-27-08, 12:51 PM No, this is the original Delco stereo, and from what I've read, the Security light should be blinking when a door is open and key isn't in the ignition. EMB1230 03-27-08, 06:19 PM Update: My lighted entry seems to have started working now. Plus, I talked to a Cadillac dealership, they said it sounds like it's the radio itself because the retained accessory power thing works just like it should. However, I'm still stumped about the alarm not functioning. Btw, how the heck do I get this radio out, i've removed the 2 screw at the top, but it won't budge. krimson_cardnal 03-27-08, 06:39 PM EMB, update your CP to include, not only the model but year of your car as well. Helps those who help.
No idea on the radio. I would suggest you pick up an original FSM [Factory Service Manual]. Go on ebay and search for one. Get the real deal, no cheapies. It will be invaluable to understanding your ride.
Cadillac radios are like a link in the umbilical. Major problems can result with after market installs. It's all in the harness. I'm no expert but would suggest replacing with OEM or have a good installer at hand. I'm sure the security issue is related. K_C EMB1230 03-29-08, 01:06 AM Well, I figured out how to get the stereo out, beat it up a little in the process, but I did no damage to the car. Alarm still doesn't seem to work but oh well. I also notice that my brake pedal is a little soft, but firms up when I press a few times. The antilock or brake lights don't come on (besides from the self-test at startup) so it can't be that bad, plus the fluid is full, I'm hoping it's just air in the system. krimson_cardnal 03-29-08, 01:23 AM There's a current thread running on this forum re: brakes giving out after bleeding, check it out. Doubt removing radio will correct anything, replacing it maybe. K_C chubbyranger 03-29-08, 07:51 AM In 93 the radio should be less of an issue - its still just a radio, even the Bose. That was before the newer integrated systems where the radio determines the ignition timing based on what kind of music you are listening to. Bleed the brakes. EMB1230 03-30-08, 02:58 PM Well, the radio that was in there WAS the problem, got another one, clock shuts off just as it should on this new one. EMB1230 03-30-08, 04:07 PM edit: tape deck in the new one doesn't work, good thing they're identical, I swapped the tape mechinism out of the old one and put it in the new one. BTW No (LOL) I don't still listen to tapes, I use a tape adapter for my MP3 player. krimson_cardnal 03-30-08, 09:12 PM Glad the radio replace fixed things for you. Did it fix your brake issue as well :) ? K_C EMB1230 03-30-08, 09:34 PM Not yet but I'll get to it by the end of the week. | |
