View Full Version : Night Vision image size quantum 03-26-08, 11:53 PM Quick question - can anyone tell me how wide and tall the image is on the windshield (approx)? The online pics and promo stuff make it look like a foot wide and about 4" high, but I was looking for an actual measurement (within an inch or so)
I have never seen a live NV setup in action :( mrgoodbar67 03-27-08, 04:59 PM ill snap a picture tonight and post it....
From memmory, it seems to me like its approx 8in by 4 or 5 in.
Picture will be posted tomorrow morning. quantum 03-27-08, 05:21 PM Thanks for the pics and measurements Mr G, that would be even awesomer!
I know they call it night vision for a reason, but does it even work during the day? I mean, IF you can even turn it on in the daytime, does it show up at all on the windshied? mrgoodbar67 03-27-08, 06:12 PM It Turns On.
The Image Is Displayed On The Windshiled And Needs A Dark Background To Contrast The The White Nv Image.
The Background Is The Night/Darkness thats outside, So If Its Day Outside, The Image Will Be There But You Wont Be Able To See It.
Just Like Using White Ink On White Paper (its There But Your Eyes Cant See It)
......black Or Dark Paper Would Be Ideal (night/darkness Outside)
Youll See The Pics. Ill Take One With The Nv On During Day And One With It On At Night. It Turns On.

This is has me curious I personally dont have NV, but I typically end up tinting my complete windshield to all my cars with 20% tint, would the display show up any different in the day time? Or its the camera itself that needs a dark/night area to show an image correctly? mrgoodbar67 03-27-08, 07:36 PM Thats Interesting Risho
I Live In Cali And Tinting Laws Are Strict. I Didnt Know Other States Allowed That. Lucky!!!
Maybe Your Being A Rebel Though.
Im Pretty Sure It Would Still Work Because I Can Use It In A Parking Structure And Its Not Totally Dark In There.
Ill Try An Experiment Today By Covering Up That Part Of The Windshield With A Black Poster Or Something.
Ill Post Pics And Update Tomorrow Morning. Well basically a rebel with a safety net, my car is registered in MA so I always hang out in other states RI/CT and if you didnt know another state cannot enforce inspection violations from another state, so I only need to worry about MA pulling me over but then my 2 cousins(both state troopers) and close friend who is a cop in my city kind of help that situation
Here's my old Town Car, next on the list is my Deville i'm just saving up to install new windshield, mine is really pitted and has wiper marks on it:

for me in the western part of cali other states are too far for me.
so i also get my chp, sheriff buddies to help me out oh i get it. lucky you, you live on the east coast where statelines are down the block.

Yea thats one pro of the east coast but im still jealous of your weather:worship: and non rusty cars so much easier to do your own work without a few cans of PB Blaster..:bigroll: mrgoodbar67 03-28-08, 01:48 PM HERE ARE THE PICS OF THE NIGHTVISION-
NV1 DISPLAYS THE NV AT NIGHT WITH THE NV LOGO AND SHOWS ITS ACTIVE.
NV2 SHOWS THE NIGHT VISION ON DURING THE DAY BUT WITH A BLACK FOLDER ON THE PART OF THE WINDSHIELD THAT DISPLAYS THE IMAGE. THAT CAR IS THE SAME WHITE CAR YOU SEE IN THE NV3. THE NV IMAGE IS VISIBLE SO THAT MEANS IT DOESNT HAVE TO BE DARK OUTSIDE FOR YOU TO USE THE NV. SO IT WILL WORK ON YOUR TINTED WINDSHIELD DURING THE DAY.
NV3 SHOWS THE NIGHTVISION ON DURING THE DAY. AS U CAN SEE, IT IS COMPLETELY un-visible (if its even a word). NO USE IN HAVING IT ON IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A TINTED WINDSHIELD AND CANT SEE IT.
NV4 SHOWS THE NIGHT VISION ON AT NIGHT. YOU CAN CLEARLY SEE THE IMAGE AND MY DOG THERE. IT WORKS REALLY WELL.:bouncy:
FYI- JUST NOTICED LAST NIGHT THAT INORDER FOR THE NV TO BE ON, WORKING AND VISIBLE, THE LIGHTS HAVE TO BE ON. EITHER DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS, OR REGULAR HEADLIGHTS.
IM SURE MOST OF YOU HAVE THE DRL'S WORKING SO ITLL BE FINE, BUT FOR YOU GUYS WHO HAVE THEM DISABLED, YOULL HAVE TO TURN ON YOUR REG HEADLIGHTS.
I WONDER IF ANYONE KNEW THIS.
THERE YO U GO.
SORRY FOR CAPS, ITS A HABIT. quantum 03-28-08, 02:28 PM That is super nice of you Mr. G. Thanks for the pics and the info! The image looks to be about 10" x 6" perhaps?
I have some plans for my NV setup, and will post detailed pics in my original NV thread once I begin the install.
As a teaser for ya'll, I am considering putting a GPS unit (not a TomTom, but similar) with a composite out signal into a Y connector. One signal from the NV cam and the other from the GPS, both leading to the HUD with a switch.
Flip it one way, I see vermin glow in the dark, flip it the other and I see my route displayed in front of my eyes. GPS may require a little back light tinkering for daytime viewing, or I ray run it through the LCD monitor in the dash for daytime, and the HUD for night.
I don't intend to tint the windshield, it is an offense punishable by death in NJ I think. And my DRLs are active when in gear. mrgoodbar67 03-28-08, 03:05 PM sound like hell of a project.
post the link to it here so that i can track it. quantum 03-28-08, 03:32 PM I will keep this Night Vision thread (http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/cadillac-deville-1985-2005-including-1985/65089-night-vision.html)updated so you guys can keep track, see pics, etc.
Rather than have 2 going. Maybe I should close this one? Ohhhhh, I never closed a thread before! | |
