Hi ppl,
Where is the temperature sending unit on a 1975 SDV 500? I'm getting a temp gauge fitted, (I hate that stupid light, I like to know before the car's cooked). Do you just disconnect the light?
TIA

I knew you were going to ask that one. I looked in the FSM and did not see it. I knew it was up front by the timing cover so I went out to the GMC MH and looked. It is under the distributor, to the right looking in. It is screwed in axially. You may try landing the wire from the idiot light on top of your new sender. It might work.
Good luck

If your talking about the red engine temp light and buzzer.. that sensor is by the last spark plug on the drivers side number 8.. there is a one wire sensor switch that switches to ground at 280 degrees...

The sensors in the heads are metal temp the one in the block under the distributor is water. My FSM is for a 1974 and I don't think the 74's had the sending units on the heads. I also think that both heads have the metal temp sensors and they both got hooked up to annunciate.

those sensors are on both heads.. the one on the passanger side head is a 120 degree sensor that stops the heater blower from coming on till 120 degrees...won't stop the defogger or a/c
