Hi Folks, I just got the engine out of my 67 deville. The engine bay is in pretty good shape for the year. I plan on re-wiring the entire car, just because I don't trust 40+ year old wiring and I'm replacing all hoses and brake lines. Are there any ideas out there as to what else I should replace now that I have the room in the engine bay to work. Thanks.

i would recomend replacing the master cylinder and brake boost. check the radiator and transmission lines too. also now is a perfect time to beef up yor engine since its easily able to be worked on. good luck

When I had the engine out for rebuilding in my '64 Impala a few years ago, I replaced the fuel pump, water pump and all the belts and hoses, including the heater hoses. I put in new spark plugs and spark plug wires at this time as well. New sending units for temperature and oil pressure, too. If you're not getting good heat, replace your heater core while it's easier to get to.

If you pulled the tranny out with the engine (and assuming you haven't already had it overhauled), it would be a good idea to have that done at the same time.

This is also a good time to clean up and paint in the engine bay. You can have the exhaust manifolds sandblasted. There's special high-temperature paint you can get at any auto parts store to paint the blasted exhaust manifolds. After 7+ years, mine still look good.

Of course, if you can afford to and want a really sparkling engine bay, you can have parts powder coated.

Thanks guys for your help. Replaced Master cylinder and booster, waiting for my brake lines to come in, took advice and will replace heater core while I'm in there.
