I had to replace the remote for my 1997 DeVille. I got it through e-bay and just got to getting it to work. I took it down to the dealer, who told me it appeared to be defective. I then remembered that a couple of years ago a gentleman e-mailed me the procedures to do the programming for his 1998. I got it out and it took me about ten minutes to do the job. The mechanic (alleged!) was dead wrong. It isn't that hard to do if your ever have the need. As to where to get the directions, I believe some of the key and remote vendors will sell them. No other equipment than the key is needed. Please don't contact me for it because I don't have any idea about what models, etc., are correct, but, it isn't a complicated or difficult thing to do if you take your time and have the proper directions.

I wish the same could be said for my '01, sadly its a 30min fee everywhere I go locally so I'm looking at $45 to do my remotes, I want a new key as well so I have to wait to do eevrything together to avoid being charged twice.

Since I found them through this site, I'll direct you to RemotesandKeys.com They've treated me well. They have directions for at least some of their remotes. I suspect you can get all you need from them. I was really ticked off that the dealership screwed up on the programming. I don't know if they just didn't want to program someone else's remote, or if the mechanic was really an incompetent. Anyway, try R&K-I'll bet they can get you going.
