I haven't really checked it out...but does anyone know if I can change my own brakes on my 2005 Sts V-6....With everything else on this car, I have to have special tools, which I don't have. I just want to save as much money as I can. IF someone knows, please tell me, and if you can, suggest where to purchase good brakes for this and for a GREAT price.

Thanks in advance

i think the only tool you would need is for the hex bolts (allen key type)...everything else is pretty standard. any c-clamp will push pistons back in, using old pad to push if need be.

get the hawks, you wont be disappointed. do a search on here for tons of info.

Brake jobs are about the easiest service on any car (assuming of course no drums; replacing brake shoes and rebuilding drum kits suck IMO). My biggest problem has always been finding a place to turn the rotors. Where do you go?

CAUTION: PUMP THE BRAKE PEDAL UNTIL IT IS SOLID BEFORE PUTTING THE CAR INTO GEAR AFTER DOING THE WORK. The piston in the caliper will be completely pushed back and will be no where near the rotor when you are done. You will have no brakes until about 10-15 pumps. Not trying to insult but have seen at least two times a "professional" drive backwards through the garage door after doing a brake job and not pumping the pedal.

At the prices the dealers are charging you can but new brakes and 4 new rotors for much less and not have to worry about cutting the rotors.

If the rotors are still good any Strauss Stores, Pepboys, Etc. should be able to get them done for you.
