DIC shows 'check coolant level' about every 4-6 weeks ?

i only have to add a 1/2 cup or so...not very much.. to top it right off !

is this an oversensitive sensor or what..

with the head gasket issues of the N* , what do you guys think i'm up against??

I wouldn't say HG's just yet but i would check for any leaks cause my 97 deville was doing the same thing where i had to top it off about every 4 weeks and then the leak go bigger and i was topping it off every week. So turned my car on a saturday morning but i could not see any leaks, but i then had my friend at the time accelerate the car and it was basically squirting like a water hose from the reserve tank. I got the reserve tank replace and then everything was fine.

Never fill the cooant reservoir or surge tank to the top. COLD, it should be just about half full, no more. Coolant expands quite a bit when warming up to 210 degrees, the pressure cap is set for 16#, so when the "solid" expanding coolant rises to the cap it just blows out. The system is designed to run properly with an air/gas head in the surge tank. There have also been several posts concerning a cracked surge tank purge line nipple (on the upper side of the tank).

What car, year, model, mleage ? Hummer, Honda, Hupmobile ???

its a 2001 DTS. yeah it certainly could be leak somewhere else - as opposed to an HG issue. i just automatically assumed the HG may be getting weak !!

i only ever fill it to the line when cold. but its funny, it never needs much to top it up - seems like the 'low coolant' sensor goes off when its a 1/2 inch below the 'full' line.

Being an '01 it is much less likely that it is a head gasket. You need to locate the leak. Dried Dex leaves a whitish residue. Check the surge tank and radiator side tanks.
