View Full Version : Clunk Sound Near Right Front Wheel

So...on Friday I noticed a very loud "clunk" sound - metal against metal when backing up into my driveway. My immediate thought was that it was the ABS - like maybe I tapped the brake so quickly that the ABS engaged. On second thought, the noise was WAY too loud for ABS.

I drive around more on Friday, including some reverse - and no more sound.

Over the weekend I took a long drive up the coast and while pulling up to the pump at a gas station, that noise occurs again. Loud "CLUNK". Not good.

I am somewhat concerned because it seems like it involves the brakes or steering, or suspension - not sure...but not overly concerned because the noise only happens at low speeds - and possibly only while turning.

I drive all the way home and no problems. I pull into my driveway at an angle (because otherwise the car bottoms out) and sure enough - that loud metal against metal noise again.

I didn't drive the car in to work today, but will drive it over to a dealer first thing tomorrow AM.

I think this is the final straw for me (yeah, I've said that before). I love the car but the constant problems are sapping the enjoyment and wasting my time. I have had more problems in 3 months with this car than all the problems with all other cars I've owned in their lifetimes...I have a true love-hate relationship with this car.

I know that if I have the troubles you have had, I will sell/trade this thing and move on.
I don't threaten, I act. I will not put up with a ton of crap from an automobile.
I took entirely too much grief from my other car......but have to admit that after I did Nissan's QC for them, it was a good car.

Can't even begin to hazard a guess as to what the clunk might be.
Especially if you are sure about the location of the sound.
If you weren't so sure, I would guess a bad or loose steering rack........

But so far so good.
Dealer sending guy out to change my battery in about an hour.......we'll see if that is all that it is.......

Not that this will make you feel any better about your 'latest problem'; I'm sorry about that. BUT... I've had my '08 CTS4 since August 28, 2007; NO problems with it at all (I currently have slightly over 6000 miles on it). ANY car model, can, and does, have problems with individual units (read about Mercedes problems, lately?).

Uh oh...wife just called me. She says there are wet spots of a dark fluid on the driveway...looks like oil...maybe. No other car has parked there except my CTS. They are going to have to pay for my driveway to be cleaned...
